Out walking the dog earlier and came across this.

How does something die in this posture? Frightened to death perhaps?

Looked real to me, plus there were a number of flies showing interest in it.

Weird, with the eyes open it looked like it is frozen in time ready to pounce.

I suspect that what has happened is that after it died, and starts to lose moisture, the skin has contracted and opened the eyelids. If it was out in the open, then something has moved it there, otherwise animals in the wild usually find shelter to die under. It also doesn't look like it has been dead long.
So clever my foot fell off.

It’s hard to see it in the photo but it’s actually up on it’s front legs.

Looks like it was killed in a trap, big crease across its back.

Why? It’s a dead rodent that doesn’t look like it’s dead, so I took a photo to ask better minds than mine on here. I can assure you I don’t make a habit of photographing dead animals.

That’s been killed in a mousetrap, gone into rigor mortis hence the fixed upright position and then someone has just chucked it into the street.

Yes, that would explain the eyes open and posture.
