A question for the GMW B5000 Steel owners and G-Shock fanboys in general. I have the auto light facility activated and changed the settings to 4 secs length, but after the white light, it turns red before fading. It only lasts a second or so, but I managed to get a shot of it.

    Normal white light.

And a little flash of red before it disappears.

Just want to make sure everything is as it should be

No idea if it is standard but the red light seems like a nice feature.

I popped into the Carnaby Street shop earlier hoping for a nice chat about G Shocks and a look at the full metal models. Outside is plastered in huge pictures of the gold model and one of the staff has the cabinet open with the three models and was polishing them, so an ideal opportunity I thought. He wouldn't even let me try them on and was just irritated I was asking about them, saying nowhere in the world has any left. Charming.

If in doubt, check it out...

I rang the Casio Customer Services Deprtment and they passed me through to technical support and I had a chat with a very friendly guy. I explained what was happening and that it did it on both 2 and 4 seconds.

He assured me that everything was normal and there was nothing to worry about, it is indeed a known (to them) feature of the auto light facility.

The last thing I wanted to do was break the bond I had with the watch

Strange, I always found the workers in the store quite friendly. I got the impression from my last chat with them that they're a bit over the whole full metal models with all the random people asking about them which may have been a factor.

Does he mean the gold or any of them?

I am due to receive another Silver in the next month or so after foolishly putting a deposit down with a US retailer before getting mine. If you want it at cost when it arrives you are very welcome. Not sure what the final price will be as it is in US dollars and there will no doubt be some customs charges etc.

Sure but given the shop is festooned with pictures of them and he literally had it in his hand, you would have thought he could be a bit more obliging!

Received and first dibs go to Benjamin. Having got mine via wileeey collecting personally from Carnaby Street and sending on to me, it is only right that I return the favour to the forum. It wouldn't have sat right putting it on e-bay for a fast buck. Karma and all that

ETA, crikey they aren't cheap! Presume they were a limited edition and some sort of hot item?

The latest generation Frogmans are not cheap at all compared to most other G-Shocks and this one is neither the cheapest nor the most expensive of the six different (soon to be seven) models of this generation released so far.

Frogs are an addictive and expensive game, but they aren't for everyone. For newcomers it is worth trying a 'mid-range' Frog - something like the GF-8235D-1B - you get a lot of the qualities of a Frog for about half the price; they are also smaller and may the fit wrist better too. I have one and may add this one as well, lovely Frogs in their own right.

I was in there a week ago and they were very friendly and happy for me to try the metal squares on. Also took my details so they could let me know when/if they get more in stock, although they will run a raffle to see who gets to buy them. Maybe you got the grumpy guy?

GSTS310D-1A. Picked up from US for USD137 delivered to Aus by my NY buying agent. Kids eventually come in useful. Chunky but comfortable. I was worried about the integrated bracelet as I have become used to wearing perlon/nylon straps - so far, so good.

Given the changes in Aus import laws it's going to be useful having relatives abroad. I used to feel sorry for you guys in the UK, now you can feel sorry for us Aussies. https://www.theguardian.com/australi...-new-gst-rules. It's not just Amazon, the gov't is going after all the big retailers abroad that ship to Aus making them charge us VAT/GST at source. How unfair is that? I bet the UK gov is watching with interest.

Too early to tell yet. Really, really enjoy both silver & Porter.
Have not had the opportunity to give the gold much rotation yet TBH.

Very refreshing to see it on the wrist, too, I believe all other pictures of it I've seen have been in the box waiting to be stashed away - congratulations, S.L., enjoy your awesome watch.

Interestingly I just read on another forum that the red light flashes briefly after the initial white LED light once there's a reminder set.

I have just sold my SS one to a forum member because it would have just sat in a drawer as i wear my GW5000 more.

However it seemed to me that the display on the new steel ones seems sharper/clearer compared to the GW5000

    Does anyone else notice this.

Yes I agree. It is apparently some new technology. And the light is white instead of green. Also the buttons are easier to press, not so recessed and quite a bit larger.

I bow to your superior knowledge. It's a shame the guy at the Casio technical help centre didn't know that.

It is indeed good news as I did find the flashing red light a little irritating.

Fair enough, but sometimes the numerous pieces of paper they issue contain a lot of words, but can be short on actual instructions.

The two main reasons that I haven't been chasing more limited edition and / or brightly coloured variants is the lack of gloss finish and difficulty in sourcing spare bezels and straps.

I have wanted a glossy red one for some time and spotted this one on eBay USA but wouldn't buy it until I could find spares. I found some on eBay Japan and managed to buy two bezel and strap sets. In that way I can wear it regularly especially on my forthcoming holiday where I am planning on snorkelling, paragliding and all sorts of things, knowing I can return it to pristine condition easily.

Tiktox are great as are Pacparts in the States, however spares availability for the limited editions even those currently in production is pretty hit and miss.

I guess I should be grateful as it severely restricts what I will buy, otherwise I suspect my house would be filled with the things like Tribbles on the Enterprise.

The good thing is that when you can get hold of them spares are cheap - so stocking up wont break the bank

    Ohhh i like that mudman..

And yes i am also guilty of buying a few spares for my squares.

Been swapping out the bezels on my 5000 to put one on with the gold lettering.

    Cheers
