Anyone know anything about it and even better know of any dealers taking pre-orders.
Seems as if the 'release' was way premature from what I remember reading at the time. We'll have to wait for the proper release whenever that comes.

    Haven’t seen/heard anything since.
It was a gold & a steel one, both on bracelet and negative displays, the picture stated ”pre production render” IIRC.

    More Burton:

Froggy ❤️Now we're talking. Very nice indeed. Congrats. There're some strap options. Gotta find the proper link. Some folks have solved this problem very nicely ( no cutting )

Thanks for this guys, gives me chance to recover from recent purchases before these hit the shops. I recall November being mentioned, but these things are never exact.

The aftermarket strap finally arrived from China a few days ago:

I love how understated the watch becomes once you've changed the red resin for black.

The colour is an interesting one, somewhere between yellow and green, quite intense.

With a blue bezel instead of black perhaps.
The Frogman choice for Team Sweden will proably still be the GWF-D1000NV,

I ordered this watch at a very good price but sent it back as i thought it was too big...or too deep when i think about it.

I have the chance to buy again at a very good price and maybe i should try it for longer this time BUT what is it like as a day to day wearer now you have had yours for a while.

    Thanks

    Mark

New arrival for me today .

Not as scary big as I thought it may have been .
It is however so stealthy that telling the time is not as easy as even the other reverse display I have .

Interesting Mark, I have looked at these 'black out' versions and cannot decide if I want to try one out. There was one on SC a few days back. I have got used to the reverse display as long as it is in a bright setting. Putting that same display in a matt black surround is very much going the other way.

You will have to let us know more from your experiences after wearing for a few days.

It seems everyday is a school day when it comes to G-Shocks. Having bought a Rising Red and a Marine White I was on the look out for a Lightning Yellow, or something very similar. I wanted it to be at least the 3159 module with tough solar, atomic auto timing and auto lighting for the evenings.

Then the watch below appeared on e-bay, a GW-M5600A-9 Yellow with a 3063 module, 5 band and stamped 'S' on the reverse.

This required a bit of Google time. It turns out that the 3159 was the upgraded successor to the 3063 when 5 band was increased to 6 band. It seems the only difference is the 6 band can pick up two stations in China whereas the 5 band only picks up one. For the rest of the world they are identical.

The 'S' indicates 'Sample' and can be used on pre-production models, models taken to International exhibitions and fairs etc to avoid duties or even models out of production which are being given away as freebies to their major Authorised dealers. Basically the samples are not for commercial sale.

When the 'S' appears it is common for there to be no serial number on the caseback. I suspect that it doesn't add any value, but makes it interesting.

Anyway, very happy with it, but if I do see a 30th anniversary Lightning Yellow for sale I will be tempted.

A few gratuitous images of the Red and White just for fun:

I bought my first G-Shock, a DW-9000, in the late '90s at SOGO - a Japanese department store at Piccadilly Circus that's sadly long gone.

Back in 2011 or so though I had a watch cull, and because I wasn't wearing it, I sold it to our very own Tai Mi Shu. As I recall she had a sort of display of them in her tattoo parlour, or hairdressers or whatever it was, and it went to form part of that.

But after I'd bought another couple of G Shocks in recent years, I started to regret letting go of my old one. However - last week I noticed two mint DW-9000s on eBay being sold as a pair, so I bought them.

The green one is exactly like my old one, except that it has a 'G-Lide' logo watermarked into the display so that it appears when you light it. Perhaps a later variant.

I'd intended to sell the blue one on, but of course now that I've got my hands on it, I rather like it so I think I'll keep them both.

    Hi Ken,

In bright sunlight the display is very easy to read and the same at work under fluorescent bulbs, underwater it also seems fine and in complete darkness the way the display lights up is also fine - as long as I have my glasses on.

Where I struggle is if it is not bright indoors - dim indoor lighting but not dark enough for the back light to make enough difference. Overall I am enjoying the size and matt black appearance.
