Just been and had a look at my wife's Broadarrow PRS-10 and I think it looks fine with a white date wheel. Actually, I often prefer a white date wheel as it visually balances up the dial if there is a marker at 9 but not at 3.
The PRS-10 should have been delivered at the same time as the PRS-5 but Ronda supplied the movements with white date wheels instead of black, as ordered. If it has a white date wheel, it can be ready next week; if the movements are changed for black date wheel, it will be ready in a month.
Thoughts?

Black on white is more legible, so that's the way to go.
Black, it must be black!
Contrary to popular opinion, I like black-on-white date wheels on black-faced watches. I consider it a sort of reverse-color coding, so the date numeral cannot be confused with a dial numeral (provided the dial has similarly-sized white numerals.
Also, I think the visual balance (combined white area) of the dial is important ... on some watches this principle mandates white day wheels, on other blacks. My Mark MCXLVIII looks more balanced with a white date wheel, e.g.

No problem for me at all. But I guess it sells better with white on black...
I'm not as think as you drunk I am.
Assuming the date is at 3, then black on white is the way to go - as previously stated, it balances the dial.
Will it look a bit like this?
(Ron Jr's pic)
I'll be disappointed if it doesn't look a LOT like that.

I haven't got a problem with the black on white.
As a matter of interest, does the MoD spec mention date wheel colour/design?
I believe it specifies no date. ;-)Originally Posted by Jimster

Can we perhaps have some of the batch held up for the black datewheel, this is going to be a deal breaker for me and I have been looking forward to these. I really find the black datewheel a refreshing change to any watch rather than the standard black on white.
There you go - a date wheel in any colour is a bonus then :)Originally Posted by Crusader

Black, especially if that was the original intention. To change now is to compromise the design.
Anyway, we're in no hurry. Eke these new Precistas out. We have to 5 to feed out addiction this month.
Agreed. I have one of the few 50s with a black date wheel, and love the look. I would happily wait a little longer to have one on the 10.Originally Posted by simonsev

Looking at my watches I seem to have more white numerals on black date wheels. I prefer the "stealthy" look of this arrangement. I can also see the argument in favor of black on white for balance purposes. Why not realese both versions?
White on black I think (but I'd buy anything nice!). :D
Either way works for me; why not release what you have and let the others wait?? !!!
I do have to say that unless it's really bright I can't read the white on black date in my PRS-3, but it's very small anyway.
I prefer the aesthetics of a white on black date wheel, but not adverse to black on white.
/vince ..
COME ON YOU BLACKS!
We're catching up!!
can we have both?
the white datewheel probably does lend a tad more visual balance (esp. viewed from afar), but i can see the attraction of the black date wheel too. if there were no numbers on the dial, it would be an easy choice for me to pick black.
i'd probably lean more toward a white date wheel for this piece but if we have anyone skilled in Photoshop, a black date wheel mockup would be cool.
i dunno if i should vote. it looks to be a nice piece to have but i already own too many quartz watches and don't fancy getting another. of course, once we start seeing some owners pics, i could change my mind. :)

I prefer the white numbers on the black background and would be willing to wait for them to be produced.
I would buy the black numbers on white if that was all that was available. It is, after all, another Platts design which we have all come to covet.
Hi. For myself, and for whatever reason, I seem to prefer white on black datewheels. But to be honest, and without trying to analyze why, the picture that Hogthrob put up by Ron, Jr. of the Broadarrow PRS10 couldn't look much better than it does and on this watch the black on white date wheel looks great--even to me--so I can see why many want the black on white for the new PRS-10.
Eddie, maybe you could keep half of the PRS-10's with the white datewheels Ronda sent Fricker by mistake as they are and have them change the other half to the black date wheels as originally ordered. Seems a good idea to me anyway and ought to make everybody happy :albino: , Rollon
I've ordered 25 with white date wheel and the rest with black date wheel for the first batch and we'll see how it goes.

The date is only on the navigator version DEF-STAN 66-4 (Part 5) /3 of 19 June 1981, but not on the general service version DEF-STAN 66-4 (Part 4) /4 of 29 February 1980. I had assumed that Eddie's G10 was a recreation of the latter rather than the former, but that may have been a rash assumption.Originally Posted by lysanderxiii

Does that mean that the first batch will take a month Eddie?Originally Posted by swanbourne
Maybe not, the black date wheels are expected tomorrow and it will only take a day or two to make enough for the first batch.Originally Posted by raysablade

On photoshop :
Black date wheel (I prefer) :
and white date wheel :
and I'm interested by the PRS-10 of course !
Lionel
Don't mind either way, I've always had a slight preference for black on white though - I don't really see the point of a stealth date!
EW
Prefer white on black - but it's not really an issue with me :)

What's the decision then??
This I guess:Originally Posted by Earwicker

Voted "black" though I'm not a fan of quartz ones:)
Glad I got a white one while they are still available; this watch is all about simplicity and ease of use/readability :)
