    Patek Incoming

I posted last week concerning my Aquanaut dilemma. With the price of the Aquanaut increasing to crazy levels on the second hand market I was wondering whether to trade up to a complicated piece, especially the world time 5130G.

Well the trade has been done but not for my intended piece. I tried the 5130G and it is indeed a stunning watch and was very much on the shortlist. On the advice of members of this fine forum I also tried the classic 5146G. I found it to be a superb watch which oozed class but when I tried it on it just seemed lost on my wrist. My wrists aren’t huge at around 7.5 inches but I’m used to watches with presence and the 5146 at 39mm, and a thin case, just seemed lost on me.

Next up was the Gondolo Calendario 5135P. From the moment I saw it I was blown away and I knew it was the one for me. The tonneau case is 38mm wide and 51mm from lug to lug giving it the kind of wrist presence that you may not expect from a complicated Patek. The weight of the platinum case is a joy and it holds the caliber 324 annual calendar movement. The date, day and month are shown through three apertures on the dial which also shows the moon phase and a 24 hour display. At three o’clock and nine o’clock are two discreet diamonds and there is a third between the lugs at six o’clock.

The trade was done and the Aquanaut is no more. It wasn’t a straight swap but it did cover the vast majority of the cost and I must say that it’s a trade that I don’t ever see myself regretting.

Never seen one of those before and it looks really good. Probably the only watch I'd wear with diamonds on it too!

Looks good. But I do prefer the 5146J - personal preference of course.

I like that, very nice upgrade - some bling, a nice complication and no doubt the heft would be good too. Congrats!

Very nice indeed, would prefer it without a moon phase function though.
Find the Tonneau shape very pleasing and wears bigger than a round by far.
