Unboxing the new 50th anniversary Omega Speedmaster

Over on the Omega forums someone posted this link to what they think is the first unboxing video for the new 50th anniversary stainless steel Omega Speedmaster:

    https://www.instagram.com/p/BxouxIEAJ5p/

Whole package looks very cool indeed to me. The new 'gold' is very pale in this video and in other photos that are beginning to circulate.

    Good link - thanks.

Personally, I find the packaging hilarious but I guess that it helps justify the price

I like that packaging - completely over the top, but who cares 😂

Packaging is good but I don't really care even if it cam in a soiled cardboard box.
The watch does look good overall, 9'o clock' subdial notwithstanding.

Yep, ruins it for me. If they felt it necessary to have an engraving there, I would have preferred the footprint from the back.

I quite like the new bracelet though. I like that Omega has begun using female endlinks

WIll be interested to see how these do on the secondary markets. £7k for a watch limited to 6969 pieces is a lot of money but then a Hulk has a similar RRP, there are far more than 6969 of those around and it trades significantly higher than RRP so let's see.

That’s the full cheese fest right there! A watch holder in the shape of the lunar module, I actually snorted in disgust

Please Omega, would it hurt to let us pretend we’re sophisticated connoisseurs, and not overgrown kids buying ourselves expensive toys? What next, a Bond SE in a model submersible Lotus Elan? (Actually that sounds great, where can I get one?)

The watch at least looks like quality, if you can overlook the astronaut’s butt on the dial. Which I can’t.

I prefer the standard Moonwatch but predict this iteration will be completely sold out very quickly.

Omega is moving into the themed packaging industry!

  19. #19
Looks to be a different coloured Speedy Pro box with new hardware and a different insert. Personally, I love it as I like interesting packaging even if it does mostly end up in the club.

Also like the watch and glad it is different, like a good remix of your favourite song and hopefully with 6,969 of them I have a good chance to do so.

Hopefully, I will get to see one in flesh when I attend the Speedy Tuesday event in Frankfurt next week. That will be the decider on whether to place an order.

Yes of course, that was the one ;-) Or perhaps you could have a DB5 that ejects the watch...

    Moonshine Gold

Who knew 'Moonshine Gold' was a thing. Omega sure do know how to appeal to boys that still like (very expensive) toys 

    Thanks for the link OP.

    Moonshine has a lovely hue.
I don't like the 9 dial either - I was hoping for, and would prefer, the footprint on the front too.

I agree re Moonshine - silly name, beautiful colour. I just hope the 50th full gold piece delivers in the flesh as it’s looks suggest it might.

Didn't know when you went to open the box you got a nasa style lift off countdown voice over! Does it come with batteries?

Looks like the astronaut on the sub dial is lugging the presentation box with him, maybe he didn’t want to wear it to keep it minty.

Me too! The inner 10 year old found that mighty cool. Still disappointed in the watch though. Mind you the nicest bit for me is the time of the first footstep - 21st was my mum's birthday so it reminded me of her

And sew-on patches, what's not to love.

No apologies, I think that set has been well thought through.

I’m not a fan of the sub dial but really like the overall look of the watch. Omega seem to be trying to create a demand for two tone watches at the moment.

With Sports/Professional Rolex being unavailable I think Omega must try to fill the void.

I’d love to see one in the metal to make my mind up but I suspect I’ll not get the chance...

I love that comment, because it resumes everything about that watch (and many others): we are all big children with expensive toys (why would you be here else, come on don't lye to yourself)! We just all have different levels of acceptance and different tastes.

Being it a watch that cost a Gazillion because it has a tourbillon (that sells a higher level of accuracy compensating for gravitational effect on a watch movement.....ROFL), a watch with 50mm + diameter or made out of Unicorn bones burnt by a Dragon or the watch worn by the dude that first shaked Neil Armstrong's hand after he returned from the moon, it is all the same:

B I G Toys for men and women
