I prefer the polished version. I think it suits the style of the watch better, and it just looks so right.
You won't ever have cause to regret buying one!
Ordered it with the brushed rather than the polished finish. What's the consensus?
The thinking behind ordering the brushed finish was (a) less risk of scratching and (b) possibly more understated. On the other hand, swirlies can be polished out, and the polished finish looks pretty damned good in all the photos.
All and any thoughts very welcome, particularly from owners as I'm half tempted to email and ask for the polished finish before it's too late.
Cheers in advance

Both look good, but mine is the polished version.

Congrats! Great looking watches & if I was not so much of a bum, would have bought one ages ago. Anyhow, I think the brushed finish is more stealthy & will probably handle a bit more abuse than the polished finish.
Will look forward to some pics once you have it.
/vince ..
Very clean watch and I would go with polished as I would wear as a dress watch therefore wouldn't get heavy abuse.
Look forward to seeing it :)

Polished for me, and on my wrist today for a change :)

Clean, elegant design. Almost perfect...........You cannot be wrong with it....
I'm hoping to order one in the next few months as my dress watch. Think I'll be going with the polished for that reason.
There's a couple of posts on the stowa forum showing the MO with roman numerals and that looks absolutely stunning. Not sure what the availability of that is but reading the posts over there it would appear to freely available, just not on the website yet.
That's a beautiful watch indeed. Polished for me if I had one. :)

Cheers - I think I'll sleep on it and possibly email tomorrow, if it's not too late for a change.
Will definitely post pics when it arrives, which will hopefully be early September, in time for my wedding.
The best thing about the polished case, is if it get's marked, it's a doddle to sort out. Brushed cases make touching up that little more difficult.
That will be a perfect dress watch for such an occasion. :)Originally Posted by Seabadger

I have a polished marine Auto and love it. I think you won't go wrong with a brushed case though, especially on the Original.
Love the Original but for the money I'd go for the auto, 250 euros less and with a date function. Can't think why the Unitas is so much more
Great watch either way, enjoy and pics please when it lands :bounce:
cheers
Mark
I love it when people buy something and, before it's arrived, get on the forum to find help in justifying the purchase! :D Go on, you know that you're always going to be wondering what it would look like if it was polished and surely the original that it is based upon didn't have a brushed finish!? You're simply going to have to get both to do the comparison
I respectfully disagree gents....
Marine watches are toolwatches.........
so for the ultimate toolish appearance I chose a brushed finish... ( and for luxury a brushed milanese bracelet to go with it  )
less bling more understated....
So Draz my advise... your first choice is the right one.... don't run with the pack.. chose a brushed one...
Hi
Its depends what you intent to use the watch for, "tool looking with jeans" or "exec look with a shirt and tie".
Mine is polished and I wear it with a shirt and tie...
Thanks
deano
No argument from me that it is primarily a tool watch. I wear my (no-date) Auto on Juchten leather:
or sometimes a Jumbo:
..or NATO:
..and it's polished. :D
I would go for the polished. I purchased the last Antea silver index dial limited edition that Jorg had last month, and I am enamoured!
Regards,
David
Congrats on the new purchase...pics when it arrives please!
It too is on my now very short to get list!
Yeah ... what's the point? :twisted:Originally Posted by draz

On a different note, since I sold my Zeno Navigator I am on the look out for another Unitas powered watch and the Stowa MO is very near the top of the list. Brushed or polished ... I am going to wait and see where this thread goes. My instinct tho says polished. :P

Every watch a story.
Agree completely, but I took one look at the delivery times for Stowa and pulled the trigger first as I need it by a very fixed deadline.Yeah ... what's the point?

Still undecided about whether to request a change or not. As I very rarely wear a suit / anything more formal (weddings, funerals and a few social events, very rarely for work) I'm inclined to stick with the brushed, although I know I may end up regretting it.
I've had the brushed MO. Alas too big for my wrists. Wonderful watch tho... you really can't go wrong with those Stowa's.
I'm not as think as you drunk I am.
The size is a bit of a concern for me as well - I'd have been much happier trying one on for that reason, and it would also have solved the polished / brushed issue. I'm currently wearing an automatic Airman and that definitely isn't too big (in fact, a couple of mm in diameter and thickness would be fine by me), so I'm hoping that the MO will be ok as it is that little bit larger.
The MO wears MUCH bigger than you would think. Mostly because of the huuuge dial / small bezel layout.
I'm not as think as you drunk I am.
I had a polished Marine Original, although I hardly wore it, it was stunning especially the back!
My thinking is polished for the Marine Original and brushed for the Stowa Airman, I've been told that was the way they were originally
Pardon my gatecrashing this discussion but I've been having the same thoughts on this watch (although I'm looking at the automatic with the date window). Brilliant to see a few photos of the watch being worn - you can really see how it appears to be huge thanks to the size of the face
As an off the wall suggestion - could you get this watch in the brushed finish and then have it polished if you thought brushed was a hideous mistake? Feel free to point out that the cost would be prohibitive etc, I'm still learning and couldn't tell you how the polished finish would be achieved. I was just thinking that dings, swirls etc can be polished out so could someone polish the whole case in situ? I'd agree with the general consensus that the watch works best as a dress watch when polished but then again the whole thing is so clear and elegant looking I reckon it would more than pass muster in the brushed finish too...
Andy
If anybody is thinking of flipping their MO please let me know? :D
I would suggest placing a WTB ad in the WTB section?!!!!!!
Even tho its not on their website yet Stowa are in the process of making the MO with roman numerals instead of arabic. Also the dial will be lacqured version instead of the flat matte version.
Pics here : http://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?t=162906
It looks pretty good to me and adds to the complication of brushed/polished/arabic/roman decsion process
My only reservation is that on the roman version the subdial cuts into the numerals.
What' ya all think of it?
Ock
Ps if this has been discussed already my humblest apologies in advance
I have to say that for exactly the reason you mentioned I don't think the added option of roman numerals makes the decision any harder. I've never been keen on cutting away the numerals and I think the OP's choice knocks the new model into a cocked hat. All a question of preferences of course but I seem to be drawn to watches that incorporate clarity and a natural elegance in their designs. For that same reason I can't make up my mind about the Mille Miglias from Chopard... some of them look less than clear and rather busy
On the topic of the OP's Marine finish I think a brushed case would create a more distinctive look. On the other hand you can't fault the polished version either. I'm not helping much am I? I think we should organise a "show and tell" for Stowa owners to demonstrate the myriad variations available :)
Where do you usually wear it then? :shock:Originally Posted by ben4watches

Every watch a story.
I'd imagine so, although in the end I was persuaded by the Airman = brushed, Marine = polished line of thought.could you get this watch in the brushed finish and then have it polished if you thought brushed was a hideous mistake?
The roman numerals don't do it for me :?
No longer a Marine Original imho.
I'm not as think as you drunk I am.
Andy, you may already be aware but the Marine Auto (centre seconds/date) is smaller than the Marine Original (sub-seconds/no date). Also, the Auto is not available in brushed finish, I don't think.Originally Posted by TheStoat
I've had 2 of each (on my second MO at the moment) and can heartily recommend them - beautiful watches and very well made.

Gotta be polished finish for me..
Cheers Guy. I knew the size varied but I didn't realise it was polished finish only for the auto case. That helps me decide but not the op unfortunately. Nice photos btw. These watches look better and better with every post...
I don't have one, but I will do one day. And it will be polished.
Same here, it simply makes sense to me! :)Originally Posted by Dean in Canuckistan

For what its worth, one of these are top of my list. Its nice to see a movement properly fitting a case! Although it is a pocket watch movement.
That's the reason the Marine Original has been made as the original Marine watch was a pocket watch :)Originally Posted by Lostgear
