    Ladies Rolex advice

I’ve had a bit of good fortune and as a result an idea to buy the missus a watch as a thanks for whelping me an heir (read, we recently had a son). I originally got her a Cartier Love Bracelet but she hated it and I’ve come to agree with her.

Mods can delete this thread if this isn’t allowed as it could be seen as laziness from me asking you guys to give your opinions in lieu of me doing the research.

Basically the question is ‘can I get a decent used ladies DJ in bimetal for under £2k and if so where?’ Birth year is 1986 if that helps.

    Over to the experts...

    Cheers chaps

No, you cannot. That money would get you an acrylic glass 203x calibre bicolour which will most likely have a sad bracelet by now.

    She deserves better.

    Probably.

I would suggest that £2,500+ will get you a 69173 Datejust, having synthetic sapphire glass and 2135 calibre movement. Go for condition above all else, and especially that of the bracelet.

A little less might get you an Oyster Perpetual 67193 or similar without a date feature, but in fact preferred by some ladies for its clean lines. This will at least enjoy the hardier sapphire glass, 2130 calibre movement and with luck a decent bracelet.

Versions of the ladies' bicolour models have for years been among the very best selling models, so there are plenty around and you should dismiss the weak or over-priced.

And, as to "where?", Haywood was too honourable to mention it but he has a website where you can see the watches he has for sale at his shops. https://www.miltonaires.com/product-...y/rolex-ladies

There are several promising looking watches there.

    P.S. I rather like that Domino's lady's Oyster Perpetual.

Sorry to jump in here, hope no one minds,

I recently bought Mrs C a watch for a similar occasion and it was the 69178, i presume thats synthetic sapphire and 2135 calibre haywood? (for the OP its a 26mm datejust in yellow gold with yellow gold president bracelet)

condition is very good, but power reserve isnt great but that may be a function of the movement and its size rather than an issue as such

69178 is indeed a 2135 calibre version in 18ct yellow gold.

I don't believe you speak of a watch bought from me but I'll defend the model anyway. Power reserve in these is never usually a problem.

Automatic winding will only slowly top-up the spring tension, so may I suggest that you give it a full manual wind once every ten days or so? Wearing it should then keep it at or close to full tension. If that works, try doing it once every twenty days......then perhaps not at all. The important thing is starting from a point where it is fully wound before she puts it on (and then wearing it, of course).

If you start from a position of little or no winding, wearing it will only slowly top up the power and, the reserve being low, it may then run down quickly even if it has been worn all week.

By the way, a full manual wind may be as much as thirty turns of the crown.

    thank you!

no wasnt from you, she has been wearing a quartz cartier tank for the past 10 years so thats probably part of the reason she could easily leave the watch off for a day or longer, im suspect thats part of the issue

Bet you haven't referred to 'whelping' (a word used to describe bitch dogs giving birth) to her face? If she finds out you might need more than a second hand Rolex to get you out of the mire!

They are very small watches. Has she tried the mid size 31mm and the full size 36mm. My partner has both but wears the 36mm more. I bought the 36mm for her last year for the same reason as you 1987 full set at £2k

That looks in good condition for the price. Shop bought or private? If you don’t mind me asking- got a significant wedding anniversary coming up and was thinking a good present for Mrs G for putting up with me all these years. Thanks

Oh I have. How it works in our house is that I say stupid things for my own amusement and she ignores them. Isn’t that how all marriages are?

"The watch comes with a Rolex box"

Agree with the earlier comment on 26mm DJ........it's a very small watch indeed and not that legible as a result.

It was a private purchase and prices appear to have risen quite a bit in a year! Good luck with your hunt

I assumed I couldn’t afford one of those. I’d bite the hand off anyone who had one in good nick close to £2k.

Although that said, I can’t afford a 28mm at £2k either. Might have a rethink.

Just to get the discussion rolling

What about something like this? I’m blind when it comes to price (and size,I assume 31/34?) but it’s simple enough for daily yet it still has some color on the dial

Or what about Rolex 14000 air king in 34mm?

Go with something larger: 34mm - 36mm. My wife wears a 36mm and wouldn’t go back to her old watch.

My wife bought herself this one because of her being-self-employed anniversary.

It's a little larger. Just judge for yourself when it comes to size and wirst. The colour is amazing: 'grape' is the correct term, but it absorbs light or reflects it. It has all kinds of colour; from pink-ish to raspberry purple.
A female colleague at the school where I work a few mornings@week has a bicolour datejust; about 36mm or so. (Makes me not the only teacher wearing a Rolex). Her's is a wonderful watch, but style-wise it's not more beautiful than the one pictured above.

My wife has had two Ladies Datejust but they became too small to read properly as eyesight naturally deteriorates with age.

She now wears a Midsize two Tone Yachtmaster. They are not too sought after, so reasonable price and easy to read with the larger hands and markers.
