Looking for a bit of advice if possible.
I am buying something on Facebook but the person wants payment by friends and family. I have offered to cover the fees but he is saying he will have to pay tax on this if I do.
If I send this payment but taking funds from a credit card Will this give me any cover?
Thanks lee
No...you don’t get the buyer protection. It sounds a bit iffy he he won’t do pay pal. If you do go ahead just add a bit onto what you pay him to cover his pay pal fee. If it’s not an expensive item it won’t cost you much and at least you get the protection
Just use this calculator

Yes I have offered to pay the £16 fee to cover the cost. I understand that I don’t get the PayPal protection, just wondering if my credit card would give me any protection. Think If he won’t take normal payment with me adding extra for the fees then I will pass I think. I also asked for a picture of his license if I did f&f but he doesn’t want to give that either.
Not only will you have no comeback with PayPal I am fairly sure by making a 3rd party payment through PayPal with your credit card you have no cover either.
The credit card payment has to be a direct payment between you and the seller.
Can you not pay cash on collection?

Your forfeit credit card protection is going through PayPal. If you do friends and family your forefeit any protection whatsoever.
He just doesn't want to pay tax and if sent as business he will have to declare. It isn't anything to do with PayPal fees.
Pick a different seller.
^^ this.
You lose Section 75 rights

and become dependent on those from PayPal (which you waive using F&F).
Surely the item would have to be worth a very significant amount for taxes to enter the equation. Any refusal for you to cover the fees or taxes their end, then they're clearly just trying to make use of your lack of comeback.
I would never use friends and family unless it was say a reputable member of this forum.
If fees are ~£16 then, if my calculations are correct, transaction is circa £500?
If seller is trying to avoid tax by suggesting f&f is this not then tax evasion?
It’s a reg plate, £530 it is. It’s for the daughters 21st in July. But even if I do f&f to his PayPal and it’s a business account he still can’t hide it so doesn’t make sense.
Not worth the risk I don’t think.
Is he a number plate trader? It seems a very strange way to expect to do business if so.
I would walk away and very fast.
Flee!

Very often the same plate is offered for sale by numerous dealers, have a look around to see if it’s up elsewhere
Let us know how it goes
I’ve just been having a look through the cherished plate section on FB, a lot of prices actually aren’t too silly.....certainly compared to what you see on the main player ads.
Its in the name. Friends? no Family? no. Dont use...
