Hi everyone.
A quick question.
Which in your opinion is the better investment.
A 1163 Heuer Autavia or Rolex white dial explorer ll - 16570

Rolex
Not investments just expensive toys..
buy the one you like or both.

Whichever you'd get the most enjoyment out of.
The investment value, if you're talking about what you'd get if you resold later on, depends entirely on how much you can buy both for now. You may overpay on both right now and therefore lose later, or still gain. Need more info therefore. But it's still underscored by the fact that no one knows future values!
Rolex.
But as others have said, not for an investment, just because I prefer it out of the two.

If you want to view watches as investments, especially in a time like this, just pop WF a enquiry with one to sell. You'll soon see they're not.
The Rolex is timeless the autavia is busy. Buy the Rolex in a month it will be cheaper.
Both seem to keep their value if you buy at the right price
Purely on a stand alone design, the Heuer for me.
The Explorer model has certainly gained a lot more attention over the last couple of years mainly because it was at an accessible entry price point for many buyers as the 16700 & 16710 prices became frankly ridiculous for such a mass production watch but for a stand out individual piece then the Heuer wins for me.
The Heuer Autavia 1163T Siffert for me thanks.
"A man of little significance"
Rolex is a much more robust movement and spare parts unlikely to be an issue in the near future.
I would go Rolex, although the Heuer is the nicer watch.
Easy, Heuer...
At the moment, either as an investment (at least in the short/mid term) will be a downward heading one.

Breitling Cosmonaute 809 - What's not to like?
In my view the 1163 will plateau. The explorer will continue to grow. But you know what they say about opinions.
The white dialled Exp II is the unloved ginger stepchild of the Rolex steel sports range ... but you'd still be better off with that.
Echoing others, don't buy to invest so buy the one you will enjoy the most and write the money off.
My choice would be the Exp II however, hopefully get one myself before the end of the year.
Is it though? I see nothing but love for it these days tbh. I know it wasn't always the case, indeed my first Rolex was a black Exp II and I'm not ashamed to admit that it was because it was buy some margin the cheapest way in (at the time). One of the watches I most regret selling now!
I think opinion has very much changed these days however?
If you believe that you'll believe anything.
"Caution: Some people don't like it and express their views strongly, even implying everyone feels the same way they do."
Why aren't they two very different watches? One's a chrono, the other essentially a GMT?
Apart from the colour it's chalk and cheese, no?
It depends on the exact model of 1163, I’ve had a few iterations over the years - condition is key.
Mainly a heuer guy, so I’m bias - but vintage heuer comes with some real motorsports pedigree and amazing designs from the 60s and 70s.
Saying that I’m thinking of adding a Rolex to the collection.
Feel free to add pics of any potential incomings so that I can offer an opinion.
Good luck
Jason
The 16570 seems expensive at the moment. These were changing hands for circa £3k on here not too long ago. I wouldn’t buy one for what they are going for now
(The same could be said of all Rolex, but this model was always a bit unloved and has just got caught up in the bubble)
Personally I would like to try the Heuer, but money says Rolex.
I prefer the black dial 16570 but either colour I would try and get a tritium dial hands watch, when these form patina they look awesome and will have a better investment and ownership value.
The Heuer 1163 is cool ..and nothing to do with Tag..
The Explorer is popular at the moment because of YouTube hype and a decent watch but cool it is not..
