    Marine (shipping) traffic

Following on from the air traffic thread and having done a quick search and not seen anything connected with this I thought I'd post up a couple of websites that shows the majority of the worlds vessels. As an island nation we tend to forget how the vast majority of goods arrive in the uk. I've been at sea since 1994 but thought this maybe of interest to others. Also bare in mind than the large majority of these vessel haven't stopped during this current covid crisis with some crews literally being shanghi'd working well past the end of their contracts stretching to months past due going home.

I find MarineTraffic to be best but had to switch off notifications - I would get around 50 e-mails at the beginning of the month with the movements of my ‘fleet’.

Yes, a lot of crews are doing much-extended trips, and as they are pared to the bone on crewing - are working hard every day.

Those two plus https://shipfinder.co/ and http://map.openseamap.org/ for me. The latter shows navigational marks and lights...at least some of them.

Unless I lived on the coast, would these websites be of any use/interest? I sort of get flight trackers as I can look up in the sky and see where that plane/chopper is going to/from?

    It depends upon your interest...obviously.

Myself, I've a keen interest in most things nautical and follow the news that interests me. I've recently tracked the support and recovery vessels for SpaceX launches, the search vessels for a missing person off the Dorset coast and for the F15 pilot who went down in the North Sea. When US nuclear powered warships visit us in the Solent they generally don't appear on AIS but their support ships do.

If none of that interests you...then no.

Splendid! Marinetraffic now joins flightradar as a fascinating way to spend a coffee break.

At the moment there are two lifeboats off of Lulworth Cove and a CG helicopter coming in from St Athan. The helicopter from Lee-on-Solent has been searching the coast but is returning to base.

Edit Both of the OP's links are showing the rescue helicopter as well as the shipping.
