Just email them back and say sorry but it's 2mm too large.
Rant Alert - Feel Free to Ignore!
Before I let off a bit of steam...
...Let me start by saying I am a Rolex Fan Boy.
But right now I wish I wasn't.
Let me explain...
...I got this in my email yesterday from a watch seller:
£7,490 for a 41mm Oyster Perpetual with green dial?
What the...
...I knew I shouldn't of done it...
...But I couldn't help going to the Rolex site to see how much RRP is for this watch (I know, I know, stupid boy)
And saw this:
£4,700!
So...
...To get a watch that I can't go into a Rolex AD and pick up today...
...I'm supposed to pay a whooping £2,790 (63 percent) over retail?
I get this is a business and I kinda get the rules of supply and demand...
...But even as a Rolex Fan Bay, I can see this is madness.
Will it put me off Rolex?
No, unfortunately not.
But I'm feeling a little less love for the brand today.
Okay...
...Rant Over, thanks for letting me get that off my chest.
Right, back to work.
Just email them back and say sorry but it's 2mm too large.
"Will it put me off Rolex?
No, unfortunately not."
Any sympathy I may have had...

That’s a ridiculous price but I guess they are trying it on and someone may pay it. Whose paying 80k for a steel nautilus? 25k for a steel Daytona? 20k for the new Kermit/Hulk?
My guess has always been a combination of it’s either people for whom money is no object, people who negotiate on that price, some who may think it will still rise and odd person that had no clue whatsoever and just buys.
I wonder if there was a thread on ‘whose paid the most over RRP’ would these people appear? Or are there very few actually out there.
What started with the Daytona being hard to get, then the GMT, followed by the Submariner and now the OP.
I’m mad at Rolex. They don’t give AD’s option to order additional references.
If you are a ‘one and done’ (retiree, graduation gift) you have little choice but go to a reseller with the huge markup, bundle with a PM or choose something else (Two tone or with diamonds).
Seems an expensive game to me
I’m sure you can go in to an AD and put yourself on a list for an Oyster Perpetual. I don’t see this as being hard to get.
Not surprising someone is having a go given recent history, and the green 41 is a fair guess at which one may be harder to source. But I have my doubts this will be the next Daytona, it’s reported to be a widely available watch in the near future. Perhaps the new case size will slow down production a bit, but the black and white OP39s were not hard to find, I was able to try them on easily.
Meanwhile I hear a huge groan in the force, as if the entire forum was saying ‘Oh no not this **** again’ at once...
Hold on, does that swing-tag suggest this is offered by UK Specialist Watches, the chaps in North Wales? They have history on this forum....

It's certainly an odd market. Last year I bought an Black Dial OP39 for a touch under RRP, knowing then it was an entry level piece that was unlikely to rise in value, but not lose too much either. It's a classic watch, simple, goes with everything, 5 year warranty etc.
It's perfect, and I was happy that I'd own it for a long time without worry. This week however due to the discontinuation of this model, used prices have risen to a point where they're now more expensive than the same sized Explorer (OP39 on C24 in Europe £6.5k, Explorer 39 similar £ or less).
You can't be a REAL Rolex Fan Boy!!! If you were, you'd be PLEASED and PROUD to be ripped off & exploited, after all its only ROLEX that incites such stupidity (sorry, excitement). After all, it demonstrates that the Rolex value bubble hasn't burst yet, which is all many owners seem to care about.
Their watch, their property, can sell for whatever, etc., etc.
So, less of a Rolex rant and more of a reseller rant?
You're right, shouldn't "of" opened the e.mail....
If money is an object to you then you are not a preferred Rolex customer. Through no fault of the company they have become a fashion object and as such, the sky is the limit.
"Rolex" is becoming synonymous with "watch". Remember the hoover? This Rolex thing has at least 10-20 years in it so strap in for the ride. Soon every single 2nd hand "rolex" will be auctioned.
Not just the one 2020 model, but three...

I wonder who is supplying them.

I think the OP will be in very good supply, don't worry. Look at the warranty card, these were all sat ready to go before Covid for the Basel release -- they must have piles of them by now, even with the pause in production. The mint/turquoise one seems to be the hardest to get based on what I've read. The OP isn't my style but I am tempted by the green and would like to try one on at some point. Although I wouldn't even buy a Sub at list from that dealer, they are known for issues.
I love Rolex, its a great brand and makes great watches. But really come on. Do you want a 8k watch for 20k...or in other brands a 20k watch for 8k. Cant see an end to it unfortunately, but I am feeling a lot of backlash against the market
That OP39 is a beautiful watch, far nicer in my mind than the new iteration with the double indices and larger case size. You were lucky to pick one up last year while it was avaiable; as another poster has commented, I don't think there is anything 'entry level' about a watch that classic and lovely.
To the OP - it sounds like you maybe haven't played the Rolex game before, but the norm is to see vastly inflated prices from sellers online. This doesn't mean the watch will be impossible to obtain otherwise. Many of the steel sports models are obviously extremely difficult, but traditionally the OPs are fairly attainable, albeit with a relatively smaller wait. Admittedly the green dial may be quite popular at the moment with being so new, but I suspect that if you aren't in a massive hurry to be the first guy on the block to have one, if you approach a few ADs, register your interest, and follow up periodically to show your seriousness to buy, you have a decent chance of being able to buy one at retail before too long.
Even I’m getting really fatigued with the incessant Rolex price talk now, and as you might have a guess I’m a fan boi
Its boring.
Rolex offered above RRP shocker.
Be patient. You will get one at list pretty quickly. This dealer is cashing in on hype. Don’t succumb.

1/10 only.
Good question.
I'm not after one of these, I was just a little gobsmacked by the mark up.
I didn't know that, I'm new here... Still a lot to learn. And thanks for pointing that out, I'll go check.
Yeah, this is my first time playing the Rolex game, thank you for the insight. Judging by some of the replies on this thread the Rolex game is very familiar.
Usual thing. Rolex are popular and command a premium because of it, no surprise there.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.
They’ve already started to arrive .
Spoke to my local AD today and they have received a delivery ... calls being made to customers this afternoon .
As already mentioned in this thread , these have apparently been sitting waiting for the launch caused by C19.
Definitely a model that is within the grasp of the genuine enthusiast at RRP unlike so many in the last few mad years .

Cheap one here then:

As far back as I recall there was an initial "hard to get" vibe around any new Rolex release. The exp242mm was initially quite scarce in 2012, I waited until 2013 when I was able to get a reasonable discount on one.
The were the days like.
I sold my one and only Rolex a couple of months ago. No regrets. Not interested in what is becoming a fashion statement or following the herd mentality.
Had a passing interest in the green OP but the thought of any shopping experience where the vibe resembles the seller doing the buyer a favour is a big turn off. See also - restaurants where you’d be lucky to get a table.
Isn’t it all a bit desperate?
I really don’t see how this is the fault of Rolex
I was in Vienna and all Rolex ADs have a selection of the new oyster perpetuals for you to look at, naturally you can't buy them and they are not very sure about waiting lists or wait times. It seems that rolex is becoming like the hermes birkin. However the ops are lovely, all dials look good especially the ice blue
It appears not, at least on TZUK...
When I bought my first rather tired used Sub about 13 years ago, I'm not sure I even knew what a 'brand' was, certainly didn't think of watches in any context other than whether I liked the aesthetics, could they take a knock and could I still eat if I pressed the button. And I liked the ND Sub so I bought one. And the Seiko 6309-7290, so I bought one, etc etc.
At least with the current market, buying any more watches from the big R is no longer something I think about, never mind worry about. But living in Devon and driving a 13 year old Focus, I appreciate I'm of zero interest to Rolex and the marketeers anyway. Which is how I like it.
Beginning of the end strategy. Overprice through supply demand lingo and take the money for as long as you can, as the next generation will not be interested in antiquated technology or the price.
Will follow the same path as most antiques eventually.
I doubt if this price gouging in the secondary market is without Rolex clandestine collusion.
They are a mass producer of watches and they know that if they scale up their production their merchandise is going to drastically fall in value. At the moment the inability to secure Rolex at retail prices is the unfulfilled challenge that propels the desirability.
Remove that and you'd eliminate the premium people are willing to pay.
I heard if you buy a Rolex Cellini your AD will grant you three wishes
