Does it also affect huge Toblerone's and massive bags of (still overpriced) chocolate?

What happens to the watch dealers or do they survive selling to rich Arabs etc ?

So only things that are actively harmful for you continue to get a tax subsidy? Nice.
And a larger quota...Duty Free extended to the EU from January 2021.
Interesting link, thanks.
States the rationale is that those savings the airport retailers make are not always passed on to consumers and often goods are brought back into UK which therefore impacts the High St...can kind of see where they are coming from.
Has anyone compared price of a bottle of perfume in duty free vs. what you can get it for in a normal shop?
I did it once and it was actually more expensive in airport...of course not always the case.
You certainly don’t get full duty off spirits that’s for sure.

”VAT Retail Export Scheme
As part of these changes, VAT refunds for overseas visitors in British shops will be removed. Overseas visitors will still be able to buy items VAT-free in store and have them sent direct to their overseas addresses, while the costly system of claiming VAT refunds on items they take home in their luggage will be ended.”
I just sold a watch to a guy in Ireland. I guess next year he would be liable for VAT payable on import - as we in UK are liable when importing from USA?

Biggest impact will be on private sales.
Is it still on tv then?
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.
When I first joined the airlines several decades ago, part of my induction was a tour of the Heathrow terminals. One of the managers pointed out to me the (then) second highest grossing square footage of retail space was M&S on Oxford Street. The duty free shops in the terminals netted four times that amount.
There is something about travelling that makes people feel a purchase coming on when they walk to their gate. I bought a memory card at Dixons in T5 that was urgently needed for my new phone. When I got home, it was a quarter of the price on Amazon. I ordered the identical thing and took it back to Dixons for a refund next time I passed through.
oh, UK is finally shooting in leg taking back control :)
Duty Free is a dead horse these days.
Most if not all is as cheap (and often cheaper) elsewhere.
