New G-Shock release: RAF Gravity Master GR-B200RAF-8AER

    Just released today...

The Royal Air Force x G-SHOCK GR-B200RAF was designed in conjunction with the Royal Air Force, built to accommodate the severe environments faced by pilots and packs flight mission essential functions into an updated Carbon Core Guard Structure. The special edition Gravitymaster boasts design features inspired by aviation, including the three buttons on the right side of the watch arranged to resemble a helicopter control stick while also contributing to ease of operation. The stealth colourway is inspired by the Eurofighter Typhoon, designed to be difficult to distinguish in the sky during operations.

    Every g-shock I've bought.. I flip.. so I'm resisting! Price is £349.

Nice but I won’t be buying one, I think I’m too old for Gs now.

It has a good spec and I quite like the look (bar the RAF logo on the strap keeper) but Like all the G shocks I have owned it would never get worn. I would also forget how to use all the gadgets and functions. I can’t work a simple standard G shock so would have no hope with this one.

I'd need to wear it on my calf.

If anyone is interested in these and has a Defence Discount card you get 25% off, brings the price down to £279. I like the look of the watch but the keeper is just too, well, RAF for me.

I like it and I would get one if I could get it at a normal price. Casio UK however won‘t ship to Europe (and it‘s not available here in Germany). The only seller who will ship to Germany demands £100 over retail... Does anyone have an idea where to get one?

I watched that new series on TV last night about the Red Arrows touring North America and wondered what the pilots were wearing - presumably it was these?

(Hopefully not as I'm trying not to go down the military watch collecting rabbit hole again...with little success).

    Regards

    Jon.

I generally think a g shock should be a) digital and b) cheap - although I will admit I have a couple of frogmen that weren’t all that cheap. I have large wrists and I’m ok with the GWF-1000 with a T- shirt, and I’m over 50 so pay no attention to the age thing - but these new enormous ana-digi things are stupidly big and thick, so ‘rugged’ I think they actually look a bit silly - especially on anyone with an average or slim wrist. Compared to a 44mm Panerai they are huge, yet still many use negative displays and microscopic printing on the dials they aren’t even very easy to read. The further you get from the standard dw-5600e the less ‘g shock dna’ you get. And these are a long way from that, with a big dollop of Walter Mitty to boot!

Unlike the last iteration, I’ve not seen any aircrew ‘test’ this or feature in promotional stuff. If this is the case, I suspect Casio just paid the MoD marketing department some money for the rights to slap the RAF logo on their watch. Even more straightforward than obtaining a NATO stock number and pretending your product is military issue.

Looks identical to their other models apart from the buttons that are designed “to look like buttons on a helicopter control stick”. Not particularly keen on the Per Adua text on the strap either.
