But I think the 8 is really a bit offset.

    Otherwise a true winner! Beautiful.

It's pointless trying to superimpose a circle on this picture when the dial wasn't shot full-on. It was shot like this to eliminate crystal glare.

    Eddie
Well, if we are really interested in finding out perhpas we should have a "full on" shot?

It does appear to me that the 8 and 7 are "centred" below the 10 and 11 rather than all the other watches that I have looked at that have them "left justified".

I've now read this sentence six times and I still cannot figure out which watch the 'it' refers too. Do you mean that

    (a) You cannot figure out if the IWC Mark XV is technically superior to the Speedbird 3?

    (b) You cannot figure out if the Speedbird 3 is technically superior to the IWC Mark XV?

    Draz,

IT makes perfect sense to me so I can see only two possibilities for your confusion:

1.)Given your location, perhaps English is not your first language and IT confuses you.

2.)English is my first language but I am so bad at IT I don't know IT.

I rather hope IT's the first but if IT's the second, I hope IT confuses you further.

Does it matter? Did you see the picture of the MkXV I posted where the 5, 6 & 7 are well inside the circle and the other numbers aren't?

I've checked a few other dials since and none of them stand up to scrutiny when magnified. I'm not going to get OCD over this.

May I add: Balance and Aesthetics rarely have anything to do with maths. Aligning type by maths doesn't mean it will look balanced.

Don't try measuring things, if it looks right it is right, never mind what the ruler tells you.

It may just be the drawing, but it doesn't look like the arrow is hitting the center of the diagonal line....

Rollon, I make a lighthearted joke -- yes, slightly at your expense, but you invited it -- and you respond in a manner which I find childish, rude and offensive. Congratulations, you've made my ignore list.

Considering that you are giving me the distinct impression that you are going out of your way to misunderstand and mischaracterize my words as well as my intent by them, perhaps because I am an American, at the moment I think I'll just not get too upset about your "ignore list" for now, Draz, and wish you well, Sincerely, Rollon

Wow! The SB3 looks fantastic--front and back.

I was wondering if there was an "O"-ring seal on the case, and happily there is.
Thanks for seeing this project all the way through some trying challenges and surely making this Speedbird the best watch it can be.

Looking forward to the official launch,
    David O.

Re: I think the dial is OK now

    Dear All,

I am slightly dismayed over the comments on this thread. I would like to comment thus:

    1) The dial is perfectly proportioned and balanced, please stop drawing lines and circles on it. Eddie must be pretty pissed-off at all this - the guys a perfectionist and if he hadn't spotted the previously mis-aligned 3, we'd all be sat wearing one now completely oblivious!

    2) Rollon and Draz - come-on you guys, can't we have a bit of light-hearted banter without getting all nationalistic. We are all watch lovers are we not and one of the reasons we come here is so we can relax with like minded individuals!!

I'd like to congratulate Eddie for once again producing a watch that the vast majority agree looks fantastic, with great specifications at an affordable price. Keep it up Eddie and could you please now get on with the Vanguard!!

    Cheers
    David

I doubt it, the lugs are different and the endpieces for the SB3 were custom-made for the SB3. They're an awesome fit.

Definitely a looker this one and clearly it's been just rearing to roll out of the hangar with the right dial. Just now noticed from the latest shots how thick that dial is, looking at the date window. Love the bracelet, to me it feels retro-future somehow without feeling dated. Thinking 2001: Space Odyssey here and drinking whiskey to banish the oncoming flu-epidemic :blackeye:

Hope it won't be long now.. and I think just one lume shot or similar bait would push half the old guard here into cardiac arrest and hiring nurses (well equipped I'm sure) to place the orders.. Lucky me, I'm at least CLOSE to the UK timezone here.. how about an early morning release? Say 6am GMT accompanied by a hoisting of the flag to keep it all proper and civilized :D

i wouldn't mind seeing another frontal shot of the dial and how the date looks thru the window. the one Eddie posted earlier in the thread had all those lines, circles, and shading all over it. :(

the piece looks exceptional in early every way but i have this niggling concern that the date wheel isn't strong (visible) enough...almost as if the white numerals were done in a grayer tone compared to the numbers on the dial.

any chance of a frontal shot with good lighting, Eddie?

Well I could have dressed it up a bit; we could have had a glass of wine and danced for a while but I don't recommend that anyone buy a watch they're not sure about.

Most of the watches returned for refund are from people who "weren't sure". The total time involved (not to mention cost) in processing an order, packing, shipping and then taking it back into stock and making a refund is about an hour all-in. An hour I've worked for nothing and could have spent more usefully. I don't know many people who are happy to work for nothing and I try to minimise it, which is why I say "If you're not sure, don't buy it".
