a bit like like Marmite really

Like many Omega fans, when I first saw pictures of the new Speedmaster "Alaska Project" Limited edition, I didn't really like the stark white appearance. I got a call from my friendly Omega dealer last week, tempting me to come and have a look as I might be surprised. Putting it on the wrist was fatal, I immediately took to it and think it is fantastic. It really works well on the flesh so to speak. Friends and strangers comment on it alike, and receives universal approval. I am very pleased with my new edition. the white strap with red writing really sets off the watch. Not that at all tacky like I was expecting.

It is a replica version of 4 experimental watches made by omega during the early 1970s, designed to withstand the wide temperature range of space. It comes with a red anodised cover which envelopes the watch giving temperature protection between -148°C and +260°C (in a vacuum). Quite how I test that I don't know.

    cheers

Very nice. I didn't like it very much either until I saw one in a shop window and thought it looked much better than in pictures. Not sure about the white strap, though, but it might look good on a grey (or maybe even red) Nato. Congratulations, wear it in good health.

I like it, but a thin black outline around the lume on the indices might have improved the dial IMO.

any chance of a wrist shot with the red cover o the watch? :)

Like everything apart from the white strap - how on earth are you going to keep that clean - put it in a box I guess and use a NATO ;)
It's just a matter of time...

I don't think any Omega can be described as the watch world's Marmite, when the oddest thing about it is an easily removable white strap of conventional design. Breitling, Panerai or Doxa, though... ;)
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!

Like it, the stark white is brilliant, stick in on a red or white canvas strap and put the Omega strap in the box to keep it clean.

A great looking version of this classic. You aren't going to be able to wear that out without it drawing attention to itself that's for sure.

Thanks Guys. I don't like the white strap either, however I just don't seem to able to stop myself from wearing it :o

Luckily it comes with two white straps as well as the standard bracelet. Like the idea of different coloured NATO's or canvas. Any ideas where I can get white or red from?

Going to try a black Time Factors NATO tomorrow, will post pictures.

    cheers

The white strap would have to go, but other than that I like it. Nice LE by Omega and a nice change from their normal LE policy of just whacking a different caseback on them.

Marmite, however, is an evil only dwarfed by Vegimite.

pictures on a NATO and attached to the red contraption to come I promise, but probably not until Monday when I can get some help.

Trust me when I say this, all of you saying you don't like the white strap, as soon as you put it on you just can't help yourself

it is shameless exhibitionism, most unlike me!

I normally go around with understated vintage watches.

Well if you can call a speedy 125 or Flightmaster understated.. okay maybe not then 8)

    +1

But it looks good with the lume in the half light. I tried one on the other, but the lack of hour markings put me off.

I like it alot too... Think the white strap is ok, just may look better on another colour.

+1 for the photo with the temp cover on please

I havent seen one in an AD so would love to see some wrist shots with the red "protector" on.

Re: a bit like like Marmite really

I love that thing... very cool indeed, however if you go to google images there are some pics with the temp protector and it looks hillarious!

Probably not really necessary for the pub on Friday night.

Re: a bit like like Marmite really-- new pics

As promised, some pictures of the ludicrous temperature protector
    Check me out 8)

Also, what it might look like on black NATO (in this case hastily wrapped around the existing strap and back to front, doh!). Think it looks great, and will switch to this when the novelty of the watch strap wears off

One surprise is the amazing lume which is visible during daylight out of direct sunlight. Very nice, and almost explains the lack of black markers on the dial.

Any photographers familiar with Canon, any ideas why I can't get the watch focused in the Lume shot?

    Cheers
    Mike

looks stunning on the nato. Much better IMHO than on the white but I can see why it makes a nice change in the early days of wearing. I'll bet you end up on the nato.

A colleague recently got one and brought it in for me to see. Must say, I liked it a lot.
