€1.5 - 2k. Not that basic.
Damn it.
The rebirth of Nivada Grenchen with new versions of the Chronomaster and Antarctic . "Cult favourite watches at back-to-basics prices" .

Top, middle, very nice.
I am very interested in these and for a first I am drawn to a white dial Chronograph.
Ha! I own an original Chronoking version of the top-middle chrono. With the Valjoux 23 movement.

<Yorkshire> Ow mooch?!</Yorkshire>
Nivada is just a brand name owned by one of the big Chinese factories now, hence why they just have the word "Swiss" on them - the old ambiguous not-quite-a-lie...
Guess it's a "buy-it-if-you-love-it" scenario, cos those'll be worth 10-20% of cost the moment your card's swiped.
Is it? I thought it was bought over by two French watchmakers from previous owners who were based in Mexico.

Not sure how people are complaining about the price. Around £1350 for a mechanical chrono with swiss movement isn't what I'd call 'toppy'
^Think it's more the description of back-to-basics prices.
Conjures up own brand supermarket goods, not €2k.
Ah! The plot thinnens! This sort of a thing is what I was thinking of.
FWLIW, about a year ago I started keeping a log of the huge number of different watch brands - at that point ebay was replete with Nivada-branded Chinesium, as above, now I see it's mostly gone - wonder if our French chums are actively enforcing their trade mark?
So, yeah, price doesn't look so daft now.
Those chronographs look nice although you could probably buy an original for similar money
Cheers,
Neil.
Myself I would hunt out an old one for sure. But the new white one is nice. Cracking little chronographs, the originals came with a number of different movements and there was even a Paul Newman font dial version (very rare).
I guess the cream would be a valjoux 23 with Newman dial. Here’s my early one with a valjoux 92 and big arrow hand set.
short term vs long term goals

I think these are finally ready.
Anyone thinking of taking a plunge?
I think the 3 hander is a hugely wasted opportunity - they have sort of got the dial right but the other elements are the chamfered lugs which they've missed outright. In any case this always makes me look at the back catalogue.
I need to take a better picture of the 2nd one as it also has massively-chamfered lugs. And then I suppose I should get them off to a watchmaker.
I have one incoming the rep told me it was shipping January 10. The website has now removed the coming soon - shipping December so it looks like they are shipping now the wait continues.
Not so keen on the modern reincarnations, but the name is fantastic!
Nivada Grenchen
I had a quick look at the history supplied online by NG, and interested to see the tie-in with Croton, of which my Father had an “Aquamatic” of theirs.
Seems like a few companies were advertising association with adventures in the late ‘40s/early ‘50s
“Reviving the Glory of Nivada GrenchenNivada timepieces have been in the watchmaking industry since 1926, the year when Jacob Schneider first created it in Granges (Grenchen). In 1976, his son Max took over the business. In the United States of America (USA), the Croton Company distributed all Nivada watches. The timepieces can have either the Nivada or Croton signature, or both.
In 1930, Nivada was one of the first companies to manufacture automatic watches. This led to the creation of Nivada’s first waterproof automatic watch called the Antarctic in 1950. The watch was worn by the members of the American Navy’s Deep Freeze 1 during their expedition to the South Pole from 1955 to 1956.”
I have one of these inbound from Hodinkee. Will post pics when it lands.

Great to see them back. A good start too.
Every watch a story.
Here we go. Thrilled with it. Better than hoped.

Looks great, Ryan. Very faithful to the original. Good thing they kept the size close to the original too. Not sure about the bracelet, but there are plenty of options that will look good on this. Is it automatic or hand wound?
Definitely a fan of the originals. If it wasn’t for the rapidly disappearing sun I’d have tried to get a better photo (and one with no weeds in the background).

Top marks to you for going ahead and getting it. I have thought about it often and was waiting for Jk103 to post his impressions but he seems busy. Hope all well with him.
It looks good but 39 mm diameter bothers me.
Anyway, a couple of months ago I paid up for their Depthmaster which is supposedly shipping in August.
The only thing that bugs me is why oh why did they put a sapphire crystal in. Bit lazy to me, plexi would be much more authentic and given the attention to detail elsewhere on the watch I can only think the manufacturer thought it would be a good ifea to put a sapphire glass but really a plexi crystal would have looked much better

Those new Nivada look really great.
Ha! You know what I think I'll keep this. For sure it is a LOT of watch for the money. Probably don't lay out the extra for the rivet bracelet - there's a reason rivets are out of fashion and that's because they are garbage. Get it on a tropic and invest £30 or so on a Rallye and job done. Super watch and joins the Hanhart ES in being a great value historical re-edition.
Make sure you get involved in the Aquastar rerelease - that again is a LOT of watch for the money (La Joux Perret Column Wheel Chrono). Also Aquastar Poseidon GMT is ridiculously under priced for what you get.

The white chrono is nice-ish, not sure if it's 2-large nice, I like the medallion caseback.
I just landed this vintage Chronoking from a fellow forum member.
It is a superb watch on the wrist - killer looks, Valjoux 23 movement & 38mm is such a great size (for me) - what's not to like! .
The new version looks very faithful to the original design that is now sitting on my wrist.
