I wish I had a small budget
What type of watch are you thinking of, diver, chrono, pilot, dress watch etc. Might help to give more details before the collective arrive and give you an endless list of their favourite watches.
Hi
Have a small budget for a 50th treat to myself
I’m limited but looking for something nice
As an all day
What would you buy ?
I wish I had a small budget

Think it would depend on what I already owned - what’s currently in your collection?

A nice Hesalite Speedy Pro, if you haven't already got one..
Failing that, a Doxa Sub. You could then spend the change taking the Doxa (and yourself) on a nice little diving holiday.

It really depends on what you're after/ what you already have.
The new Rolex OP 41 will leave you with some change out of £5k.
The Omega Aqua Terra 150M is another nice daily that will also leave you with some change.
Or a Tudor Black Bay 58.
Or a Tudor Black Bay Chrono.
all depends on what you're after.
New Explorer I
The Jaeger-Lecoultre Reverso is a beautiful watch
I would also consider a Grand Seiko at your budget.
Some good suggestion, may I ad zenith panda or tipo.
Personally I think I'd be looking at Grand Seiko and also Omega Railmaster.
There are some cracking Grand Seikos on the Sales Corner at the moment …
Otherwise can’t go wrong with the new Explorer I - classic watch and the ultimate choice for all occasions.
Guess it depends on your AD relationship if your thinking Rolex but if not maybe as suggested a nice Hesalite Speedy Pro (new model) with a decent discount and the rest to spend on a load nice straps for variety.
It depends what you have. If you don’t have anything anywhere near that expensive, I would buy a Rolex of some sort. OP reasonably available, Sub ND if prepared to wait, and you like the style, although you would have to stretch to £6450

A 'nice watch'
JLC Master Ultra-Thin - classic Swiss watch - three hander (small second hand), on leather. Slim at 8.62mm case - movement just 3.98mm thick. WF has one within budget:
https://www.watchfinder.co.uk/Jaeger...63/item/189193
or a vintage 36mm Rolex DJ 16030 from 1983 with fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet.
https://www.watchfinder.co.uk/Rolex/...85/item/187851
Please give more information as to what style / size you are looking for? Both of those could be worn everyday unless you are in the military or such like
“ Ford... you're turning into a penguin. Stop it.” HHGTTG
I think the record I have seen for the asking price of a 41mm OP is just under £13,000 so looks like the profiteers will make getting one of those (at list) a struggle.
Another thread today with someone struggling to find one of these at an AD too, I’m afraid.
I’ve never regretted buying my Air-King 114200. 34mm, which I’m happy with, and it’s a really nice “under the radar” watch, if you want a Rolex.

Breitling Superocean Heritage perhaps?

I was amazed how many nice watches are available for less than £5K. What sort of watch are you looking for. If divers how about a Doxa or an Aquastar or a Black Bay Harrods? There are so many to choose!!
At that budget I think I would buy a Speedmaster or 116234 Datejust. Also consider the Tudor BB58 blue.
How about a Sartory Billard for a bit of fun (with some change left over).

I'd go Navitimer, Planet Ocean or maybe a Panerai if I could swing a discount.

Who doesn't love these threads by the way?
I would definitely go for a speedy pro if you can stretch to it. have loved mine in the 5 years since I got I haven't had a big urge to get anything else expensive.
Go for one of the classics is my advice. Something that's been around in one form or another for donkeys years.
Breitling Navitimer.
Omega Seamaster
Omega Speedmaster
Whatever Rolex you can find in your price range.
Ulysse Nardin Marine
etc.
I'd certainly recommend going 2nd hand to maximize my budget.
for some people a 5k budget is not a small budget by the way!!
however i wouldn’t even be looking at any rolex as grey prices would limit you too much unless you fancy a vintage datejust.
i’d maybe look at an omega seamaster 300 or aqua terra if that’s your fancy.
some panerai models would also be a good option.
personally i’d be sourcing a nice breitling navitimer within your budget.
Some interesting options as the wife is buying me it I need to make the right choice
Carnt be flipping a present
I could spend more of my own however I’d not be comfortable with say 10k on my wrist
Like the thought of a OP41 but list and the unknown wait puts me off
Thanks for the suggestions
There are endless options at that sort of price, most of which are fairly readily available.
Personally I'd be looking at a Breguet Type XX (s/h), Zenith Revival, Habring FF, IWC Ingy (s/h) or GS
Or if my wrist was bigger, a Schofield.
I like it but not at £13k+!!

Grand Seiko 'Skyflake' - GS build quality and a little different, but not outrageously so.
Omega Seamaster would be my pick at that budget.
I'm thinking ahead in a very similar situation for my 50th next year, with the added criteria of something at 41mm or less.
The GS spring drive sports are getting serious consideration. As is the Omega PO 39mm. And the new Zenith Chronomaster Original if I stretch the budget.
.....or the GS 9F quartz GMT, to leave some change for a holiday....if I can get past the idea of £2.9k for a "battery watch"!
Keep us posted.

Olive green PVD Autavia? There is a nice one on SC 😉
Andy
Wanted - Damasko DC57
As you don’t give any other clues, I’d also suggest going with one of the classics - so, Speedmaster, Seamaster or Navitimer. I’d not even attempt a Rolex as the vfm proposition is so poor at present. Personally the Navitimer would be my choice.

I don’t know if it’s been mentioned but have you considered a Dornbluth? For that money you can get a centre seconds under your budget with some nice customisation and personalised engraving to mark your occasion.
It will of course depend on what you do daily. Depending on your occupation/lifestyle this kind of watch may not be much good for a daily watch.
Decision made at a great price
Thanks for your input

Very cool piece! Did you source from an AD or go used?
Went down AD route and I love the colour and PO so makes sense
It’s a beauty for sure! Congrats
Picked up at AD with a 20% off list
Is 20% common at an omega ad?
Would bring a seamaster down to an achievable cost
Lovely choice though
If you stretch your budget to £6k you can get a nice Rolex Explorer 16570, a great watch for the price
