    Oh! My Eyes!

Is anybody else struggling with old age and WISdom? Some of my watches seem to be far less visible than they used to be, with the hands disappearing into the background. I love my "busy" chronograph dials but it's getting harder to read them. To be honest, I can't remember the last time that I used a timer! Today I have dug my Divex 500 out of the safe as I can read that OK. Note to self:-
Sell all my watchmaking kit (Tinkerers, watch out for my sales posts) due to shaky hands and poor close vision and sell the watches I can no longer read clearly!(already crying!) Boo Hoo!

    I feel your pain :(

Although I saw one of these in an AD the other day and couldn't read it with glasses on. The script is so small it's ridiculous, bordering on pointless for all but the very sharpest eyes....

Nobody can read those Speedmasters, it’s a silly design. Hanhart has a similar chronograph design and it’s illegible.

I’ve slowly moved away from busy dials, advancing years and poor eyesight drive my watch purchases.

Yeah, my sight is pants so Daytonas and anything silver dial/hands or champagne dial/gold hands is out.
Fortunately they aren't watches that I aspire to anyway.

Legibility is the way guessed; all but one of my chronographs have gone and my latest two purchases have black dials and big white hands!

It's borderline for me, but I do love my chronos!

That said, I gave up trying to read a slide rule bezel long ago.

The Anakin's not too bad for a chrono.

But yeah, I'm gravitating towards simple, legible dials.

I was warned I'd go blind ... and I didn't listen - and now my it's my eyesight that's fu... er... bad.

This is probably why I own the watches I do -

    etc..

The way my eyes are going I’ll be looking for a 47mm Panerai next.

As is typical for someone in their 60's my near sight isnt good at all so I must wear glasses to look at my mobile/laptop, read things or see any detail.

Any watch I wear needs to be legible without glasses. I loved my G Shocks but couldnt see them properly at a glance so they had to go.

The CWC though small by todays standards at 36mm is OK to read at a glance.

This is my most legibubble watch with 14mm high glowing digits. Possibly not the most practical though.

    The more sensibubble option.

Sadly without my reading glasses all my watch dials are just a blur,no longer can I see the hands or lettering as sharp as they once were.

One thing I've noticed is that the red Kemmner logo on my 007 seems to be disappearing into the black dial, making it look sterile at a glance.

This. In particular I have a Casioak Stealth I literally cannot see. It’ll get sold when I can be bothered!

I sympathise with the OP and all others on this thread, as I am similarly finding it more difficult to read the time on some watches.

My only chronograph, my Speedmaster, is fine as long as I don't time anything. I can't read the sub dials.

This is why I have been toying, over the last couple of years, to look into getting my eyes lasered. I keep putting it off though....

I`ve struggled for several years, despite wearing varifocals I have to take them off to read chrono sub-dials. Fixing watches isn`t a problem because the work is all done using magnifiers!
