Yeah, had "the snip" some 16yrs back when I was 39. We had 2 daughters and that was what the wife and I were happy with. Quite a straightforward procedure as I recall and recovery was no drama. All good 👍
Fortunate enough to have two kids (6 and 2) and late summer my wife and i had an interesting discussion about her forgetting to take her pill again and she (quite rightly) said "get a vasectomy, why is it always my responsibility?"
And i have to admit she had a point. Why wouldn't I? I'm 46 and there are days when i don't want the kids i already have, let alone any more.
There's LOTS of info online but i didn't know anyone who had had it done.
UNTIL i had it done and had to take time off the bike and people came out the woodwork saying "ah yeah i had that years ago"
So in an effort to help my fellow men who are shit at sharing stuff here's what happened.....
Spoke to my GP, she talked me through the high level, pros and cons and then referred me to the specialise NHS clinic (Sandyford in Glasgow). They then sent me a video that i had to watch and then called me to make sure i understood it all - mainly the requirement to take it easy and it wasn't reversible.
Some months later the day came and tuned up at 9:30 for my appointment. Wife dropped me off and went to a coffee shop round the corner. I then surprised her by arriving at said coffee shop at 9:55, having walked for 5 mins in relative comfort.
I got the "no scalpel method" which is the more modern way of doing things and basically leaves you with two paper cuts on either side and no external stitches. The local aesthetic needle wasn't nice but the whole thing was akin to going to the dentist. It was mentally unpleasant but not sore at all. Sat on my arse for the rest of the day and slept really well at night. Was advised to wear cycling shorts for a few days which seemed a good call.
Sat morning dawned and "the boys" were quite purple and a bit tender but generally pretty good. Managed a short walk with the kids and was pretty much myself but a bit more cautious. By Sunday evening i was well enough to have a few pints with some mates, walking was fine - just not speed walking. Had my job involved me leaving the house i'd have been fine going to an office on Monday.
I'm now 10 days on and I'm pretty much back to normal. Going to stay off the bike (I'm a keen cyclist) for another few days to make sure i'm following doctors orders but i'm stunned at how easy it all was.
I've got to wait until May, then give a sample to check there aren't any (very f*cking hardy) swimmers left but other than that i'm done.
This is probably an over-share, but just felt it might be of interest / use to someone.

Had mine done 33 years ago this June, 28 at the time, spoke of the pros and cons and had two children so the Doctor agreed to it, we had a good local small hospital at the time so when I was told of the procedure I said that I wasn't keen on knowing what was going so they said that's alright, come in and stay overnight and we will give you a general anesthetic, you can go home in the afternoon.

Had mine done 6 years ago now -much like my lovelife was all over very quickly and I went out clubbing later that night
Note to self though listen to medical advice - Take it easy, wear tight pants etc for a few days after which I ignored and as a consequence ended up icing my balls for a few days after lol
ALL worth it in the end though

Had mine done about 12 years ago so procedure was a little more old fashioned than nowadays I expect. Main advice at the time was to spend the first 24 hours in bed, which I happily did. No issues after.
The procedure itself was rather interesting, local anaesthetic (which was the painful part), two doctors going at it hammer and (heated) tongs chatting away to each other, comments such as “hmmm, interesting” and “that’s unusual” .
Abiding memories of the smell of burning flesh as they cauterized bits, the tugging sensation as they pulled on my tubes and the fact that I could see a fair bit of what was going on in a reflection in the overhead light

Got done quite a few years ago now, no drama no fuss. Quick 5 min op and back on my feet straight away. Went for a nice pub lunch and a few pints afterwards😁
I had the big V, 24 years ago when my youngest daughter was only six weeks old. The worst part about it was having to shave the old knacka bag.
Had mine in August !
The op was done and dusted in 30 mins and was painless.
I was a bit sore for about 5 days after nothing too bad, just a little painful walking.
After a week I was back to 100%.

Tight boxers are the way to afterwards for a but of support while the nads are healing.

Wife is desperate for me to have it, but I have a genuine aversion to any kind of hospital procedure.
I'm sure I'll 'man-up' and do it eventually but the whole thing make me squeamish. Nice to hear it's relatively painless for the most part.
I got one of my friends to do it for me.
- drum roll.......
Had mine when our youngest was a few months old. No big deal but the injection was a little stingy. I was back at work that afternoon.
I had mine 43 years ago after having six kids we finally realized what was causing the pregnancies :) nothing to it, I had the snip at 8pm (private) and was back at work in the morning with hardly any noticeable discomfort.
18 yrs ago. Exactly this month as well. A week of discomfort, that was all.
A well timed thread. I booked an appointment with the doctor this past weekend to get the ball (s) rolling.... I'm 36 with a 4 and 7 year old. Wife and I are obviously in agreement that we are done with 2, and she wants to get off the pill that she's been on for 20 years or so.
Nice to hear of the positive experiences.

42 years ago...and a reversal 34 years ago (second marriage!).
23 years ago when my daughter was a month old! Had it done privately under local anaesthetic. Road tested the equipment after 36 hours, which HURT but generally a pretty painless experience.
Good friend of mine had the snip a few years ago…turned out the assisting nurse was his next door neighbour

I say it again, one of my friends did mine. :) :)
He's a GP, it's his specialty interest and he does about 7/week.
We're both doctors, I couldn't give one jot about nudity. 8 years ago I fixed his knee with an op and we socialise together.
Modern vasectomy is a doddle.
It's true we men don't talk enough about these things, except when we're pissed of course.
I had mine done about 20 year ago under general due to having fat around the area meaning it was difficult for the doc to access the vas deferens.
Within a few days I was back on my motorbike, a bit uncomfortable but not too bad.
It has never negatively affected my libido, maybe the opposite but I soon noticed noticed there was less ejaculate than before.
Had to have mine done twice.
Apparently I have an extra tube.
It’s a doddle can’t understand why any man can’t get it done!!
One bit of advice don’t shave on the day of the procedure!! The stuff he put on to clean the area hurt more than anything els.

I went private and the nurse was the Doctors wife, when she came in to prep me I said "hopefully it doesn't hurt" and she looked at my jewels and said "the smaller they are the less it hurts, you won't feel a thing !! " :(
43 years on and I still remember blushing :)
One of my best mates can no longer orgasm after his vasectomy….very small chances I gather, but still puts me right off!!

A lady-friend of us is a surgeon. We know her from the university, way, way back in time.
Her first operation was... performing a vasectomy operation. She was nervous: her frist operation and then (being in her early 20s) an operation like that. So, she did what was expected of her. And she was glad that it was over. All she had to do was telling the patient that the operation was a success. Then, her seasoned supervisor (who had been looking over her shoulder) asked: "How many vasa deferentia does a man have?" That was the moment she realised that he had only operated on one... and nearly sent the patient off, telling him that it was a success.
I remember sitting in a bar with friends and she told us the story. We all laughed about it. But we were no med students. She got really angry with us because we laughed. Knowing her, this was the first and also the last mistake she made as a professional.

I had mine 4 years ago. It was 3 degrees in the theatre (actually) so everything was doing it’s best to hide. The surgeon was about 6’7 tall and heavy built with hands like shovels. That guy must have had a foot long and I did think ‘I’ll be glad to get out of here’!
There must have been 15 people waking around chatting about where they went for a meal the weekend, buying a new dining table, all sorts. They didn’t blink an eye to my old man. It’s just another chopper to them they aren’t judging.
One lady nurse sat by me and chatted to me all the way thru the procedure, apparently that’s standard and it stops you thinking about what’s going on.
I have NO regrets. Best thing I have done in a long time. I would say it is an par with going to the dentist for a filling too, that is a good way to look at it. Unpleasant but not a big deal. Recovery took a few days and now I’d never know it has happened apart from not having 20 extra kids.
I had the chop about 10 years ago but unlike the rest of you mine was bloody agony.
I put this down to the surgeon being heavy handed because I’m a wimp and insisted I was put under for the procedure.
Stop reading now if you’re thinking about having the snip.
Its a difficult enough decision to voluntarily let someone take a knife to your balls without reading horror stories too.
So, where was I...
I’ve had the operation and survived the embarrassment of the piss taking by the theatre team for being a big pudding.
Things are tender initially but after a couple of days I wake up to find my tender left ball is the size of a small grapefruit and walking is like being punched in the nuts every time I put a foot down
The cause was an infection called Epididymis. I got the full on version with the infection having spread from the tubes to the sack surrounding my ball.
It took a week for the antibiotics to calm things down, and about 3-4 weeks to get things back to a normal size.
Mind you, I’d still rather go through all that than have an unwanted child.
Had mine done 3-hours ago. One bollock was absolutely fine, could barely feel it. The other was horrible, mostly because it was trying to hide so wanted to pull back against every movement, so I felt every pull, pinch, tug, clamp, and other movements inside.
Now it feels like I’ve been kicked in the nuts. A constant aching pain that isn’t the worst pain, but is frustrating and makes you slightly nauseous at times. Hopefully things settle over the coming days.
Over 25 years ago now, but I remember feeling it, wasn’t completely painless.
The doctor got me confused with a bricklayer who was also being done at the same time and said in your line of work best not to rush things and signed me off work for 2 weeks. I was a Civil Servant and both the wife and work couldn’t believe that I had been signed of.
I took it as good karma for doing my duty
Had it done 20 odd years ago , Mrs T with number 3 boy on the way , so the chop for me!
Friday night at LGI , sort of walk-in clinic , in and out in about 45 min. Local anaesthetic , bit of
a sting , the two surgeons wait to take effect then start the job , I feel something and obviously
wriggle a bit, one of the surgeons asks if I felt it , yes, so he says we'll give you another injection.
Op goes ok from then on , then tootle back home. Bit of discomfort for
next week , but nothing too bad. After the sample checks were done it appears not to have
worked ! . Another hospital visit this time under GA to make sure it works this time!
Same as before discomfort wise but problem with wound not healing properly so back to
see did again , examines me and gets what I would describe as a thing that looks like a 10 inch
match which runs o the wound. Says all done and off I toddle back to my car. By time I'm back and sat
In my car it feels like my scrotum is on fire! , it wears off after a short while but a bit of a shock to say
the least. Anyway after all that glad to say alls been well and no more kiddies.
Mick
I had mine done 20+ years ago. I was working long hours and the chance for a quiet lay down without kids running about was too good to miss. I was knackered, plus some sedative .. zzzzzzz, that was me away. I remember absolutely nothing about it and at my follow up consultation, the surgeon said he'd never had anyone fall asleep during the procedure! I had no problems afterwards apart from slight swelling and my wife enjoyed taking my stitches out a few weeks later.
Sent through the ether by diddling with radio waves
I had mine done 10 or so years ago, one side Ok but the doctor said I had a rogue nerve as I yelped like hell when the did the other one.

Had mine years ago... my kids about 7-8 told their teachers Dad was going to Doctor to get his balls cut off !!
No pain at all thankfully.
I’m nearly two weeks post-op and things are 90% normal now. My experience hasn’t been terrible and has gotten better every day, which is always reassuring when you’re recovering.
What started as constant ‘kicked in the balls’ pain with worsened mobility turned into a dull ache and occasional pains after day 5. Movement was normal after the first week.
The bruising though… oh the bruising! Never has the term ‘plums’ been more apt.
No regrets though and if I knew it would be like this I’d still have it done without hesitation.
got mine done for my 40th birthday - best present from the mrs ever
apart from the injection and the tugging - much better than getting antything done the dentist...
was back on my bike after three days and back to work next day
Bruising monumental... You have to and are encourages to 'flush the tubes' as much as possible (remember being able to after about 5 days)
then what is not mentioned - recommend about three - six more months of using condoms and getting sperm counts done in a lab once a month for that time just to be sure you are firing blanks. Really don't know why so many are afraid of it and liken it to a castration
