First half against Norwich, Liverpool were really poor. We didn’t come alive until Thiago come on the pitch. He’s technically next level, better than anything ive ever seen at Anfield.

Oxlade is finished, I’d never play him again he offers nothing anymore.

Ox hasnt offered much in a while I am surprised he has been kept on though I suspect like Origi and Philips high wages are preventing anyone making a serious offer.

Ox is a squad player at best and only starts when Klopp is resting several regular starters. The rest of the time he will come on after the match is all but won so again Klopp can rest his better players. Unless you have a squad like City you do need these 2nd tier squad players.

He’s not even 2nd tier level anymore, he’s genuinely dreadful. Completely finished.

I’m sure a few will be released at the end of the season, just like Lallana was.

Phillips is on about 65k a week, Origi about the same it’s unlikely a mid table team are going to offer them similar and pay 15 - 20 million. Think Origis contract ends at the end of the season and there has been a general policy now to one way or another move players on either by loan or out of contract to make way for younger players (Lallana for Jones) Now we have Elliot.

Kane was immense yesterday. Bullied our centre halves , dropped deep often to collect the ball. Some of his passing was excellent and he does a ton of work when he doesn’t have the ball .
No complaints, just one of those days .

What’s impressive about Man City is even when they lose which is not often, they have still played great football and as you say it’s just one of those days (from a Utd fan!)

I don’t think there’s any doubt, as long as Pep and Klopp remain in PL, that Liverpool and City will set the benchmark. City have dropped just 5 points since October and will only be 3 points clear of Liverpool if they win their game in hand. Frightening consistency.
One thing Spurs game showed is how City need a player like Kane, someone with a strikers instinct to get in the right places at the right time. For all the talent in the City squad it’s the one thing lacking.

  14. #1014
If you had the choice would you go for Kane or Haaland for City?

I agree about Pep and Klopp and especially the way Liverpool have showed such consistency over the past 5 years. I'd say the 2013 strikeforce of Suarez/Sterling/Sturridge was almost as potent as now but the defence was abysmal and cost us the title that year.

Haaland purely for the fact he’s a fair bit younger and Kane has had his injury problems.

    Great result Wolves.
Leicester the better team for much of the game, but we held out for all 3 points.

Just when I thought Arsenal were a shoo-in for top 4 Man Utd win to give themselves an outside chance. Wolves I don't think are quite good enough, ditto West Ham and Spurs are too far behind with some nasty games to come. So between Arsenal and 'nited.

Shoo-in?? The 2 games in hand are against city and Liverpool

The biggest advantage the arsenal have are they are not in Europe

Which City? Arsenal have already played (and lost to) Man City twice this season.

'On paper' our toughest remaining opponents are Liverpool and Man United, both home games. However, every team we have to play are likely to have something to play for (several relegation-threatened, others for European places). Arsenal arguably have the kindest run of fixtures, but Wolves, Man U and Spurs are all well in the mix in my opinion.

I agree the lack of involvement in other competitions does undoubtedly give Arsenal an advantage. My main concern would be goals - can we rely on Saka, ESR, and Martinelli to continue supplying them? I hope we don't regret the failure to sign a striker in January.

The remaining games in the PL should be very exciting with lots to play for!

Actually I take it back - for some reason I had Spurs 6 points behind but it is actually 3 points behind albeit with a much worse goal difference and trips to Anfield and Old Trafford to come. Although knowing Spurs they will win both those games and draw vs Burnley.

At some stage the rearranged match vs Arsenal might just have a fair bit riding on it

Agreed, would have been happy with a point, but we eventually defended deeper and deeper and just invited the inevitable.
I'm a little amused at Arsenal fans complaining about our time wasting - although they're correct and it's not something I like to see my team doing, Arsenal were guilty of exactly that as soon as they went ahead in the first half in the Molineux fixture a couple of weeks ago.

Wolves had a couple of breakaways at 1-0 to sew the game up , one in particular came off an Arsenal defender and myopia Atkinson gave a goal kick .
Every team wastes time when they have a slender lead. Always have, always will. It’s just that football fans don’t like it when it’s the opposition .

  38. #1038
Atkinson is a shocking referee Raul Jimenez booked for explaining that it wasn't him that was being substituted but Podence unbelievable think it's time he hung up his whistle

Will someone please tell me the words to that bloody song all the fans sing.

    Sounds like:

    Gonna make a pasty
    Gonna make a pasty
    Gonna make a pasty

    What a way to go

Maybe it’s time for a hearing test

As Man City are doing as I write this - Ederson’s an embarrassment.

Of course Chelsea are the masters of this - they seem to use up vast amounts of time without attracting the attention of the referee. Done well it deserves respect.

The handball decision in the city everton game is laughable.

Can’t get a more nailed on handball, VAR is literally useless.

Arm out, below the tee shirt line - but because it’s City no penalty. If it was Sterling at the other end doing his Tom Daly impression it would be an absolute cert.

Ref should have been instructed to go to the monitor.

It was offside in the build up. Every other Channel showed / called it apart from Sky. The ref actually gave the signal for offside but too many were focussed on the alleged penalty.

Another great result for us today. Unbeaten in 2022 and a draw and four wins from our last five games. I can't tell you how utterly unbelievable that is when you think of where we were around the time of the Cambridge defeat. Other results went for us today too and we're now 14th. IEWT

Richarlison was onside as the still shows below, he’s still on there and the balls already travelled a few yards.

That’s a handball nailed on all day. It’s genuinely baffling these VAR decisions. There’s so many clear errors with it, they should make the VAR decision makers provide a report for each decision they make.

There you go... Too busy wanting to believe rather than looking at facts. It seems that some people suffered a brief sensory impairment connected to their eyes, as did Sky...

Chris Kavanagh who was in charge of VAR tonight has stated

“”Not clear evidence to show conclusively that it was handball “”

Lampard on the post match interview also stated he has been informed there was no offside and the no penalty decision was due to VAR stating it was not a handball.

    It’s not offside and it’s a pen.

That’s the top and bottom of it.

    Mental decision.

I think he is offside from that picture. Hard to judge from the angle but I think his upper body would be off when they draw the lines across.

Pep said the opposite in his interview. Not sure who either was speaking to but the ref clearly listens and then gives the signal for offside doesn't he? If "that's the top and bottom of it", what is the ref doing in the clip? Is that not him giving offside? I am old fashioned in terms of thinking that the ref is the person that referees the game. Not sure that is Lampard's job?? If there was no offside, to me its a blatant handball and I would be fuming if I was an Evertonian, but the ref clearly gives offside after hearing something in his ear piece. Its there in the video clip. It's a shame that Sky has gone significantly downhill, both in terms of coverage and with its pundits. They just seem to want to promote controversy rather than cover the game factually and impartially.
