Omega seamaster 8800 date change issue

    Hi all,

New poster, I have a seamaster 300 caliber 8800 that has an issue where the date quick change happens at 6ish instead of 12.

Would anyone know what the problem might be?
Watch is under warranty so a repair should be covered right?

    Thanks

Definitely not right and should be covered under warranty. Take it back.

Hopefully not due to your error:-

The hands have been installed at the wrong time - the crown is usually progressed until the date changes over which indicates 12am.
Pull the stem in this position and install the hands pointing at midnight.

Sounds like the watchmaker putting this together did the first step but installed the hands at 6 rather than 12.

Should be a quick fix once you get it sent back

    Thanks for the replies.

I have the warranty card so is it just a matter of bringing it to an Omega AD and let them take care of it?
    Does a repair take long?

So Omega let this through QC with the hands set at 6, and you're advising the OP to "Pull the stem in this position and install the hands pointing at midnight."? As easy as that?

    Thanks

Yep - take to your Omega AD and they should sort it (I believe you should get a tracking number so you can track the progress via the Omega website).

As it's a warranty job it should be expedited.

I had a similar issue with the same model watch recently. In my case the date was failing to automatically move forward full stop. Fully repaired under warranty, the AD quoted up to 10 weeks, but it was back in 2.

I remember someone with a new Explorer 1 who posted with a similar issue on the old Timezone forum, except that his date was changing at midday instead of midnight!

Surely all he had to to do was adjust + or - 12hrs?

A date? On the Explorer 1? You sure about that one?

Thanks and thanks all for your help, I’ll arrange to drop it off to the ad over the next couple of weeks.

Only issue now is trying to resist buying something else while this is in for repair

That’s the spirit! Maybe ask for a loaner?

Is that actually something that's done? Never heard of it before.

How else would he know the time when his watch was away for service? I believe we had a member here once who got a white gold Rolex sub as a loaner.

Omega are good at prioritising warranty work. An issue with one of my watches was turned around in just under two weeks.

Indeed. It caused quite some amusement at the time, and of course it couldn't have been an Explorer 1. I've forgotten what it was.
