OBD fault code readers- any recommendations?

    Hi all,
Seeing at it's Prime day, I thought I would treat myself to one of these and was wondering whether any of you could steer me in the right direction as I've never had one before. I want one that can read and clear codes I guess, I'm not sure if I would need additional functionality like coding in new batteries, electric hand brake release etc as I don't really do any maintenance myself.
I'm on IOS if it's a wireless one so would have to be compatible, and I normally have German cars so would be ideal if it would work with Mercs, BM's and VAG group cars. A dedicated handheld unit could also work.
    Thanks guys

I use Carista and can't fault it.

Having the info displayed and controllable on my phone is much more convenient.

Op are you just looking for codes and to be able to clear them or are you looking to do stuff, like real time data and turn things on and off?

Depends on the vehicle but on VW cars the most common one is to change the stop/start deault so it is always off so you don't have to remember to do it every time you start the car.

There are loads more but it's never interested me enough to buy one.
