Sad news, only 58. Always seemed like a lovely guy and was certainly a brilliant player in his day. Will remember his celebrations as part of the Italy backroom team as they won the Euros.

Bloody hell. One of the few Chelsea players that didn't boil my blood.

Great player and always came across as a wholly decent man.

    Too young. RIP.

What a shocker. I hadn't realised he was suffering, and he's been taken at far, far too young an age.

Terribly sad for a young man.

Like many have said on here: seemed a really decent guy. Crossed the divides.

    RIP Luca!

A truly great footballer and one over seas player that actually brought a little bit extra to the premier league. A glorious career and I was lucky enough to see him play at Old Trafford in his Juventus days, a big character that has passed away far too early.

I don't usually post on these threads. But as a Juventus fan and someone that watched Italian football on channel 4 in the 90s, this is a hard one to accept. RIP Gianluca.

I spent a while after the Watford vs Coventry game many years ago chatting to him and Wilkins. Sad they are both gone, really nice guys.

That Juventus attacking era of Vialli, Baggio, Del Piero and Ravanelli is very fondly remembered by me, I don’t think I’ve enjoyed football quite as much since the 1990s.

RIP. A great player and character.

So very sad that anyone should die through such a horrible disease at what is still considered a young age.
Condolences to his wife, children, family and friends.
