First thing I would do is contact Genesis, Titanium frames should not fail like this. As a minimum you may get a healthy discount off a new bike.

Last night I found a crack in the frame of my 10year old hardtail. It’s a Genesis Latitude in titanium with 26” wheels. Rather disappointing to say the least but on the flip side it’s an excuse to get a modern new bike.
Trends appear to have changed a lot with bigger wheels and Suntour and SRAM prevalent in the market when it used to be Rockshox and Shimano.
I’m 51 so want a lightweight hardtail that is fairly relaxed and with decent spec. Too old for a xc racer. Budget is around £1500 although not set in stone and wife may recommend I go cheaper. Just don’t want to be tempted to spend even more money on aftermarket upgrades.
Would welcome recommendations as I’m unfamiliar with the current market.

Canyon are very popular here in Germany, and for good reason. Maybe the Grand Canyon would be a good option to consider as it’s well spec’ed for the price and isn’t a full-on aggressive XC racer. In your price range I guess you’d be looking at either the GC7, the GC8, or the GC9. Not much weight difference between them but the components improve a lot as you go up.

Have a look at Cube. Very good value for the spec offered on many models.
I got a Nukeproof Scout 275 comp recently, very happy with it.

I've lost track of latest stuff too but if you narrow it down I tend to look at https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/ for used /nearly new etc. I miss my Orange Crush which I sold on here as left with FS Intense which in great but overkill for my current capacity of parking in a shed.

Thanks for everyone's input. I've spoken to Genesis. It's never made easy but will look to pursue the warranty claim. Paypal has provided me with the proof of purchase from 2013. I've a Cube Kathmandu Pro which has impressed me as a ebike so will look at Cube's non ebike offerings as well as Whyte. My employer runs the cycle to work scheme (vivup) so may be options there.
So if you're coming from a 26er, you first need to think about wheel size. Id say 29er unless you are small.
Then frame material, probably Aluminium at the price point buying new.
Suntour brand now only associated with cheap forks these days so far as I know, rockshox or Fox are the leadings mainstream brands now. You'll get an amazing fork on a new bike for the price.
SRAM and Shimano still the group set kings. SRAM all over new bikes, obviously doing deals with the brands. Their lower range 12 speed eagle (sx/nx) had a poor rep intially but I think it's okay. Ive used it without issue. These are the big grouppos at this price point.
I reckon if you can find something with Shimano deore /slx, probably a bit more robust. But not a deal breaker
Thru axles, boost spacing etc all exciting stuff.
Then youve got your brand's, the more premium super brands giant/trek/specialize/Cannondale etc, or the slightly less expensive Whytes, Boardman, Cube etc, offering a slightly better spec for the money. Even Boardmans top spec HT is decent for much less than your budget

Depends what you are riding , but go and ride a full sus would be my shout. I ride/ race mainly on what you would call flattish tracks - north and South Downs is my local patch and while a titanium 26 is my winter bike , a 29er full sus is my summer bike .
My approach to getting what I wanted was to buy a Santa Cruz carbon Tallboy that was old and then I put a basic 1 by 12 drive train on it , for a fair bit less than £1500. A new full sus for £1500 may be doable but a bit heavy.. as to hard tails I always liked specialised as a brand , and a Stumpjumper aluminium hard tail was my first new bike. Alas recent years have seen them bumping up their rrp s on everything , but time are changing and a close out deal maybe possible , especially if you can wait until end summer ( old cheap frame to replace the genesis )

i have a Vitus sentier 27 .5 and a mythique 29erbbrilliant Bikes. and great Value. theres a sentier vrx on chain reaction for £1300 ish with a great Spec, have two sets of wheels for the sentier. one set with lightish tyres which is great for gravel paths

OP how tall are you? I have a frankly obscene spec bike I don't ride anymore I'd sell, the chaps in the bike shop I use for servicing call it the Zonda.
Frame is a small though, I'm 5'7.
I’m 5’’’’ft 8”” and have always had medium 17.5 frames. Would consider s/h but ideally one of those bikes that was bought on a whim with great intentions but never used.
The Vitus seems great vfm compared with the bigger names and definitely a contender.

I'd also check out Go Outdoors... they used to have a fully suspended bike (Calibre Bossnut or something like that) that wiped the floor with almost everything else at the £1k and £1.5k marks. I rode with a couple of guys who had them and for the price they were untouchable. I think they've changed the range but worth a look.
The hardtails were very well thought of as well.
Having had a few bikes the correct and only answer is…..

Thanks Luckyhands for the offer. I have been contemplating a donor frame as would be a shame not to utilise the old parts. Unfortunately the forks are tapered so does limit the options on a 26” wheel frame.
I took the cracked frame to the dealer yesterday who will contact Genesis regarding the lifetime warranty. Will just have to wait and see what Genesis have to say.

Interesting thread. Many moons ago, same thing happened to me with a GT bike. They replaced the frame with upgrade which was a GT Zaskar which I still have, and is very retro now.
Hopefully you'll get a replacement, I can't see why not, if they offer lifetime warranty.
On the suggestions, I have a Calibre Line 10 hard tail from Go Outdoors. I got in in the promo sale, and it's been fantastic. However, I used it pretty lightly, fire trails and single track, no big jumps or serious downhills.

Ti is much harder to weld than steel. It could be fixed but I would not trust a Ti frame that cracked, it normally means the original welding was not done in the right conditions i.e. I wouldn't trust the rest of it. Especially the joints.
Not many ti welders these days. Enigma? Won't be cheap .

Agreed. Realistically that needs a new headtube, which is unlikely to be cost effective.

Not being properly shielded when the welding was done can make things brittle; where it is isn't far away from a weld. Potentially. Could also just be a stress crack from use. Either way, it's not a frame I'd trust. A repair would also not be cost effective I don't think, not too many ti frame makers in the UK.

On a related note, I had a Ti frame crack near a weld (top of seat post). I sent it back to Enigma, who also offered a lifetime warranty. They initially said it was repairable. And then sent me a new frame after a few months.
Out of interest what is the advantage of a larger wheel set? 29er Vs 27.5
Faster. Roll over stuff easier.
But Small wheels accelerate up to speed sooner and offer greater agility.
Then there are these + size wheels now to further confuse things - external diameter being the key metric.
All a load on marketing guff for most of us, if you ask me.
Personally for anyone over 5.9 I'd go with a 29er, boost, and 130 travel fork as a good all-rounder

Last time I looked the whyte 905 and trek roscoe where recommended. That vitus is on my radar now too, might be time to make use of the cycle to work scheme

Absolutely do make use of the work scheme, it's a no brainer. Who's the provider of your work scheme?? Don't worry if it's Halfords, you can redeem their Letter of Collection at Tredz and also many independent bike shops.

If you spend time on theroad then 29er is miles better. I sold my Marin and got a Scott Scale and it's like going from a Beetle to a Golf R.
Pinkbike you can narrow by type of bike etc and usually well looked after/ nice upgrades etc I'd be looking for smartwater and postcodes etc. I was on MTB forum but they were taken over and screwed up the membership otherwise I'd have recommended them and to find like minded (levels) for pedalling in your areas too.
To my understanding it's all to do with the repeated hits they are now expected to shrug off. If you look at cross country courses these days they are pretty full on, and the downhill stuff is just absurd in terms of the forces at play.
it's all about finding the right bike for your use, something like a 905 mentioned above is a brilliant bike (i ride a 901) but it's total overkill unless it's going to be pointed down some sketchy hills.
i know it's a massive debate but unless i'm on an actual mtb trail with big drops i usually take my gravel bike (fairlight secan) as that does mixed surfaces way better. But each to their own.

Ive owned both a Whyte 901 and a 905 at the same time and when the time came to sell one, sold the 905. The 901 is more than adequate for tow paths and lighter trails, although im a very leisurely rider. The 905 made way for an e-180rs which is great for a fat old bloke like me
