Thread: Garden Solar Light Recommendations Please

    Garden Solar Light Recommendations Please

    Hi

Can anyone recommend some garden solar string lights that they have had success with please

I've had a few cheap sets which haven't lasted more that a year due to filling with water or the very thin cables being chewed by the local wildlife. I've also tried an expensive set (£60 for 10 metres) but again they failed after just a couple of years

Any links or photos would be very helpful too

    Thanks
    John

I think by their very design they’re not made to last John.
Thin filament wire and not very well sealed bulbs.
But saying that we have had a string in one half of the garden that is on its second year.
She got them from either Home Bargains or B&M I don’t remember which.
    Twenty quid I think.

Photos to follow, (when it’s dark)

I’ve been selling garden lights for 30 years John
All the solar ones we have tried have been pretty poor. Especially the rope light sets you want
The single solar lights are good if you choose a decent make / brand
Is there no way you can plug a set into a socket ?

Just bought a set of these for our garden.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BRKN3J...1zcF9kZXRhaWwy

Having only just bought them I can't attest to their longevity, but they were cheap enough, last a decent amount of time until the charge goes (well after we've gone to bed) and look nice in the evening.

Not exactly a recommendation but I have been using SPV lights for a few years. They have a 2 year guarantee and as they fail after 1 year ,I e mail them , they send replacements and the knackered onse are sent back to them. Probably on my 5th set of 6 units. They all seem to be rubbish but SPV do honour the warranty.

Another vote for SPV here. We've got about a dozen of them around our home and at the boat berth, all several years old and only had a problem with one.

I’ve just ordered some of the SPV solar security lights.
Half price and a further 20% off with discount code and free shipping.

Just noticed, In fact they’re less than a third of the price.
£65 down to £20 for two then another £4 off

Seems silly cheap, even if they only last the two years they’re guaranteed for.

I had the same thoughts a few years back and ended up buying festoons and fairy lights from here:

    https://www.thesolarcentre.co.uk/

They have lasted about six years outside in all weathers and I even managed to repair one set after they had got yanked by a falling branch. They have a decent sized battery too which can be recharged indoors if there isn't enough sun.

I think it was these ones

    https://www.thesolarcentre.co.uk/pro...0-862-109.html

If you aren't in a hurry they do have regular sales.

Hi John, thanks for your reply and I hope all is good with you.
I tend to agree with you on their longevity it was 2 sets from The Solar Centre which cost me around £60 each that both failed over 2 years
Think I'll just get a couple of cheaper sets for this year
I'm glad that you got a heads up for yourself on the SPV lights from this post

Thanks TWC I think I'm going to order a set of these, as the cables look a lot more substantial than the ones I had

Hi Wimm thanks for your recomendation but unfortunately these are the exact sets of lights that I bought from The Solar Centre which have both failed and also had the cables chewed through by
    the local wildlife
I'm going to give the GLUROO ones from Amazon a go and see how they perform

Hi Len thanks for sharing your experience on this
I do have access to outdoor power and I have some lighting coming from my BBQ Barn, these were just to add some ambience down the sides
Do you have a link to your business, so I can see which ones you sell please?
    Thanks, John

Thanks Tony, we love it! The company that built it is this one https://www.wo-mancave.com. We used them because they have an excellent reputation and will build to your own design, as the plot it sits on isn't square we couldn't really go with the usual type of garden room supplier as most will only supply rectangular ones. The left elevation is 3.6m in length and the right is 2.7m so it's more of a right angled trapezium than a rectangle.

Nice. Their small one looks a bit like the one I built for a mate.
It's only small as he wanted it for an office.
He liked the look of the timber so I treated in a clear preservative.

    As promised.
These are from either Home Bargains or B&M.
Cheap, cheerful and we’re up to two years now.
