Everton wanted Ings from us but surprisingly he said he'd rather stay and fight for his place.

Isak and Tonali would get a chance at Arsenal, not many others.

I've never disrespected Eddie Howe, quite the opposite in fact, I'm still 100% behind him. That doesn't mean he's immune to any sort of criticism though. His tactics and use of subs on Sunday were terrible. He didn't know how to manage the game and didn't have a couple of top, experienced players to do that for him on the pitch. Do you disagree?

What I said in this post is that I think (other opinions are freely available) the team in that image isn't amazing. I think it's fairly poor considering how much money we've spent. We've gone exclusively for youth and while youth is important, I think a couple of experienced players who know how to manage a game, mixed with youth, would have been a better strategy. Hence Sunday's performance.

EDIT: And I haven't forgotten how far we've come, far from it. Take the time to read my other posts about Newcastle before jumping to the conclusions you have.
I'm sure Eddie will be delighted to hear you're still 100% behind him even though his team is fairly poor. I think you're overreacting to one game that we could and should have won.

Isak would walk into the starting XI at Arsenal. Trippier also. And in no warped alternative universe does Guimaraes not start ahead of Havertz. Tonali is a good player but not starting ahead of Rice or Partey.

As an aside if they pull it off Brennan Johnson to Spurs would be a fantastic signing for them - that pace on the counter would be a real weapon.

This is a pointless argument for me - Newcastles greatest strength has been the team ethic much like Brighton, Brentford etc etc etc been proven time and time again and none more so for me in recent times by City - no individuals despite all the talent in the world - individuals are just that - Mbappe, Neymar, Ronaldo all prime examples of individuals who would get in most teams but I wouldnt want any of them in my team

Joelinton would get into most teams - he's great at breaking up play, like a cleaner version of Fabinho

Nunes to City confirmed, let's hope he hasn't developed a taste for going on strike when things don't go his way.

No one gets away with that behaviour at City. Impressed with City holding out in the negotiations- they seem to have everything working well on and off the pitch.

Watching Everton in the League Cup. We are playing the team 92nd in the league and they are 1-0 up and richly deserved.

Never mind competing with PL teams, we can’t even compete with the team propping up the entire league structure.

    Words fail me.

Cole Palmer to Chelsea comes as a bit of a surprise. I thought he’d be off on loan abroad or even at Brighton .
Great deal for City and Cole . Not sure where he will fit in at Chelsea but I’ll wish him well . 40 million +5 is potty money .
Looks like Tommy Doyle has gone to Wolves on loan . He will be just what they need in their midfield. A good solid player with a great dead ball technique.

Salah surely won’t leave, will he ? It’s akin to City selling KdB .

Pep said in a press conference recently that Cole wouldn’t be sent out on loan again. He’d either play or be sold. My guess is that Cole wants more game time than Pep is willing to give him. That said, with Chelsea’s spree this window there’s no guarantee he’d get more game time there.

As for Salah, everyone has a price so never say never.

Ive never seen a transfer window like this. What Chelsea are doing is bonkers, it’s almost like they don’t have a plan.

I heard he’s on £350k a week now and the Saudis will pay him £350k a day.

Suspect Pep has seen something in Palmer that means he isn't quite right for City. For example he'd never have sold Foden. I have heard that there have been some issues with Palmer's attitude, could be related to that.

No brainer for Chelsea though as Palmer is young so he doesn't lose any value for at least 6 years, Chelsea would break even at worse (excluding wages) and possibly make a big profit if he develops nicely and turns into a £70m player

£120m offer from Al Ittihaq to Liverpool for Salah. Klopp intimidating he'll walk if that is accepted with transfer deadline tomorrow

Where was that from? The Klopp bit I have seen the proposed bid £118 being prepped.

Liverpool aside, the Prem loosing big name stars is worrying.

Only issue with Salah going for 120 is we would need a replacement and the replacement price starting point would then be ……120m.

Salah also guarantees you 20 league goals a season and there isn’t another winger in the game that gets near those figures.

I have no issue with him going at the silly money being quoted.

I very much have an issue with us not having enough time to find replacements players, our performance of late in the transfer market is hardly inspiring.

This is a team in transition and Salah is approaching the end of his best, big money for a player in that situation makes sense all around, it's the timing of it all that is a big problem.

That's not to take away from how big a player he has been for us.

Are any stars going in their prime though? Salah would be the biggest to go, he's 31 now and a very explosive player so maybe the thinking is he has 1, maybe 2 seasons max at that level so maybe take the Riyals and run?

If someone like Rodri or Saka went I'd start to get more worried, but then again it is exactly the same thing the PL has done to other leagues - there's always a bigger fish out there I guess and money talks

  28. #1728
Palmer seems a strange one, looks a good player and better to loan out and keep him, unless as mentioned above there are other issues.

Fati to Brighton would be a great signing for them, he looked unplayable a few years ago but has had some injuries since then.

Surely the Col Palmer sale is as much about ticking boxes for city and FFP home grown player and great price therefore can show as 100% profit - no brainer

Letting kids go that have come through the accadamies seems the way to go and how clubs are getting round FFP

Harry Kane vs Man Utd will be interesting in the Champions League Draw!

Group F shaping up to be the one to avoid for the Toon!

FFP is dead. The Saudis will ensure that

LIV golf is the model. Suspect in 5 years I will have given up my season ticket as the game will be totally corrupted. The proposed European Superleague will look like a sensible alternative to how I envisage the game ending up. Tragedy

Eddie Howe's Newcastle are in Group F.

That means they will face PSG, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan on their return to Europe!

Lens are next out and they can only go into Group B.

They join Sevilla, Arsenal and PSV.

That is true but we're always in it to win it when there and not just to make up the numbers like Arsenal.

A little unlucky for Eddie to get such a tough draw for his first appearance, I wish them well but it's a real tough one.

Toon fans . Not wishing to tell you how to suck eggs , but .
Go to Dortmund . You will have a blast.
Milan and Paris not so much. The Germans are brilliant, Dortmund is a nice enough place and you can get 6 ice cold Paulaners and 6 bratwurst on the walk to the ground for about 25 Euro .
    You’ll thank me later .

TBH PSG lost their best players, Dortmund lost Bellingham and homecoming for Tonali. No reason why you can't win the 3 games at St James' and then nick a point away to get through.

Was always going to be a rough group as you are in pot 4 but then again I'm sure for the other teams the last pot 4 side they'll have wanted to draw would have been Newcastle.

BTW I have no idea how Arsenal found themselves in Pot 2. We've been out of the CL for years and stank out the Europa so I'm not sure how we managed to do that, probably the same loophole that saw us in the Charity Shield game!
