Looking for a brake calliper... test fitting.

In the past, I've posted pics of a blue Saab 96 that has undergone a full restoration in the workshop. The owner did a 5K kms 'shake down' and all that was done in the shop, worked perfectly. But there are a few lose ends. One of them is... stopping power. These brakes are built for a 65hp car that's trotting along the roads. The engine in the blue car has about 100hp (a little less) and the front brakes are struggling when things get 'hot'.

EBC Green Stuff is the first port of call (like my TR's) but we're thinking about upgrading the brakes. However, the major suppliers (like Willwood, Burton) do not supply a kit for the Saab 96. Some well-placed questions in the Saab community had effect: apparently, the brake caliper for a Cortina Mk3 and Mk4 are straight 'bolt ones'. And... pre mentioned suppliers have upgrade kits for those Mk3 and Mk4 models.

First step is to figure out if a MK3/4 caliper really is a 'bolt on'! But those Cortina's are very rare here and at the same time, oh so familiar in the UK! That leads to my question:

Do you happen to have a Cortina Mk3/4 calliper somewhere that I can BORROW for trial-fitting?

    Thanks in advance,

    Menno

I don’t have one but those m16 callipers were fitted to mk3, 4 and 5 cortina’s (aka the Taunus in most EU countries from 1970 onwards), all mk2 escorts, the sporty mk1 escorts and most if not all capris. Shouldn’t be too hard to find.

We hadn’t looked beyond the Cortina ‘niche’ but we can easily check your suggestion (Ford parts#) and go from there. Thanks!!!
