Manchester was a happy, harmonious place in 68, the summer of love, City Division 1, United European Cup.

Sure, and no manager exemplified that classy, heritage honouring Rolls Royce image than George Graham. What an inspirational role model.

I’m guessing that era must have been around the time you added Arsenal to your portfolio Ryan.

City were one of the founders of the proposed European Super League. Please tell me you are aware of this.

Re the England game, Maguire and Henderson is shameful in a starting XI when we have players like Foden on the bench.

Southgate is appalling. Despite having 300 holding midfielders to guard against the counter we conceded, on the counter.

Equally dreadful is Dion Dublin's punditry. First gem was 'Ukraine lack quality up front, they don't look like they can score'. 30 seconds later Zinchenko scores.

Then 'Kane is wasted playing in midfield, he needs to be playing forward to capitalise on his strengths'. 30 seconds later Kane plays a beauty of a long pass from midfield to Kyle Walker to score.

If I wanted to discuss it with a burnt out Mk 2 Escort follower, I’d wait for the Liverpool fans to join in .

Foden at centre back is interesting one, but centre mid - I'd be up for that

Shocking team selection and performance tonight. Southgate always plans for not losing rather than winning. Why is Foden on the bench? He’s a talent like no other in Europe IMO. Henderson? I can just about forgive the Maguire selection because we didn’t have CBs available and he didn’t put a foot wrong from what I saw.

We have a squad on paper that’s a match for anyone in Europe. The problem is the game isn’t played on paper. We aren’t winning the Euros with Southgate. Problem is, who next?

And with a strong, roaming, attacking midfielder who can also defend and was born in Lancashire. Just what England needs, and United for that matter.

Scotland have made good progress lately, but they seem to be lacking someone who can consistently bang in the goals.

Pep has spent more per season in his managerial career than any other manager in the history of football.

He’s the actual definition of cheque book manager.

Jose biggest with 1.71B spent over 23 years.

Pep 1.61B spent over 15 years.

Pep on target to spend another 857 million by time he gets to Jose’s time in the game.

Again he is the definition of a cheque book.

He’s got two years left on his City contract, probably the highest paid manager in the PL and a club set up most dream of. I don’t see the FA convincing him.
He’s said in interviews before that he’d like to manage a national team and you’d have to think Spain, Brazil or Argentina would be his top choices

Just updated the above, it’s actually daft how much he’s spent.

For me anyway he’s never a great until he does it within some type of financial restraint.

If he went to an Everton and transformed them with his “ coaching “ or went to Spurs and won’t the league with them then I’d accept he is top level.

Until then for me there will always be an argument against him.

I don’t know who to believe, the players or coaching staff who say they thought they knew loads about football until they started working with Pep or the ramblings of a tribal Liverpool fan………. tough call

Agreed, he’s the problem now. No Foden in the starting line up, no Sterling in the squad, no ambition to win the game and too many players underperformed. Chilwell looked ropey and Maddison failed to impress again. Foden needs to be the 10 and Kane won’t have to drop into midfield. FFS we have an amazing array of talent to select for a tournament and he’s wasting it!

You hear pundits on about the brilliance of people like Gavi and Pedri yet Foden is better than both of those.

Eh ? I was responding to your comment about him being a cheque book manager to confirm he is the biggest cheque bill manager the game has ever seen.

I’ll check the figures today and get back to you to see if he’s claimed the biggest net spend manager award too.

I’m pretty sure he’s up there for it.

I know it’s come to something when you are suggesting Sterling should be in the squad ;)
I’ve said before that this team/ squad will win nothing with Southgate in charge. Should’ve won the last Euros and were toothless in the World Cup . Settling for second best against the likes of a poor Italy, an aging Croatia and numerous other middling football nations seems it would always be enough to satisfy England football fans.

Sorry I also go the above wrong I was off by 500m.

Pep has actually spend 2.04B in his managerial career to date.

He’s actually over 500m ahead of jose in 2nd place even though Jose has 8 more years in management.

He’d actually have spend a billion more than Jose if they were at the same point in their career.

I didn’t even realise the figures were this daft, there’s no argument he’s the biggest cheque book manager to have ever lived.

Where’s that famous Scouse sense of humour? Cilia will be fuming .
We’ve done this to death . Peps spent, Jurgen has, Ole did, Ten Bob has etc etc . Pep is successful because players buy into his way of playing . Most of his charges will tell anybody that they are a better player for his methods and coaching.

I don’t really have an issue with the spending, I’d be all for Saudi buying Liverpool and spending 100trillion like I’ve said before.

No doubt Pep is a great manager but for me that’s the question mark over his CV.

If he went and did it with a sleeping giant type side or a midtable with reasonable spend I’d have him down as the best ever.

Surely that would be Brian Clough?

Took unfancied Derby County from near the bottom of the old second division to win the First division title.

Back to back European cup wins with Nottingham Forest.

The list of players he brought through is impressive too, most notably Roy Keane, who seems to have inherited some of his old bosses acerbic wit.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

Maybe because Southgate sees him in the Saka position and prefers Saka. I think Foden's versatility is his downfall with old school managers like Southgate who don't deal with inverted roles

You forgot turning a bunch of journey men players / problem players / older players into serial winners. Scraping promotion from Division 2 then winning the Division 1 title the following season before going on to the two European Cups. Tremendous achievements

Nearly £3 m a month on Sancho, Greenwood and Antony.
    Oh my aching sides .
May your scruffy club based just outside Manchester remain in the doldrums for many many years and watch as your devoted fan base invents new tropes to proclaim the moral high ground.
    Rags indeed .
