Recently moved from an S3 to this and have no regrets. Not many about, plenty practical, fast enough for UK roads and surprisingly decent on fuel.

Took my cayman to wales for a few days. Modern sports cars are just superb. They can eat boring motorway miles with ease and then be incredible agile sports cars when needed and have amazing practicality too!

Thank you, stunning car! I have carbon in the car & on the entry sills. Alas mine read Cayman GTS and not 911 Turbo S!

Can’t recall if this was your first 911 and you just went in with both feet, or built up to this?

I’ve been trying to get this out of the garage more often- the engine soon runs croaky on these old Jags if they are not started on a regular basis.
It’s a 1962 Series 1 E Type (3.8 FHC) in opalescent silver blue. She’s been in the family since the early seventies.

You say not many about. What model of Golf is it?

Yeah, that E-type is something else. Beautiful.

It is a TCR. A smaller limited run launched around Covid so it wasn’t a big seller at the time. Not many now on trader with low mileage and seem to be holding values well.

It came with a lot of standard kit including:

    TCR body kit/ rear diffuser.
    Slightly different interior.
    Only sold as a DSG
And then it came with the golf R engine and power but only front wheel drive to save weight.

Very, very close! It's a Cara, which is Suzuki's version of the Autozam AZ-1 (it was a joint venture between Suzuki and Mazda).
They are identical in every single way, except the badge and the Cara has lower fog lights.

Gran Turismo introduced a lot of folks to the AZ-1. Certainly great fun :)

Edit - You can also drive one in the more recent Grid Legends game from
    Codemasters!

Based on the past few cars posted, I have severe feelings of inadequacy, as my absolutely filthy Hilux just doesn't seem to cut the mustard by comparison!

It does get up and down my steep and rough farm track though, which nothing sporty would manage - much to my disappointment.....

I am very envious of most of the amazing looking cars on here.

Really? My desire for material items, including watches, is at an all time low. That despite my affordability being at an all time high.

I am not at all bothered by owning materialistic items, but I do still like to look at and can appreciate nice cars.
As much as I absolutely love the look of these fancy cars, and there is probably a part of me that would love to have one as a toy, the reality is that I would never use it - even if I could get one up/down our track.

An old Series Land Rover would probably be more the ticket these days. And probably be better suited to my driving ability too.

Good news! The old girl flew through the MOT today with no advisories.
However the shame of only doing 1,300 miles this year was real... 😬

Yeah hate the reminders of how little the fun cars get driven. At least nailing mileage on the smart by my wife daily, keeps them off the Porsches.

Still toy with trading them both in for a single one, but she wants a boxster and I want a cayman so we will never agree!

Purely circumstantial but my new company car is a Cupra Formentor PHEV which will happily swallow up a family of four plus luggage. Which in turn means we’ve been able to downsize the wife’s car from an SUV to a hatchback.

So, out with the XC60 R-Design Pro and in with the BMW 128ti. My first hot hatch, picked it up last weekend from BMW Romford as an approved used and so far really enjoying it.

10/10, really nice. The length of my house is probably about the same as the width of yours but the width anorexic.

I need to get back into that retirement thread and start planning a move further out. Or go wild with inheritance and let any kids find their own way.

Smart move going for the 4S to avoid disturbing too much gravel on the drive when you set off

    :-)

The Caterham was far more of an issue on the gravel than the Carrera 2!

It does make three 4WD cars in the house now but in this case it was more about getting a wide body model without paying for a Turbo.

Maybe it's an age thing, I feel exactly the same but it's taken a good few years to reach this stage. Very few modern cars hold any appeal whatsoever for me, likewise new watches.

  45. #8045
That 996 4S will be great fun. I think the 996 shape has really aged nicely. I've always liked them, but it seems the general opinion regarding them is catching up too. I only never got those overlapping exhaust tips. I keep looking at 996 Turbos, especially the X50 pack ones. What a fabulous car, but they've now definitely started catching up price wise.

I drive my 911s between 3 and 4k miles each per year. This year less than previous as I got the Up for all mundane duties, and I work from home. I just renewed the insurance for them, both on the same policy, and it has gone down almost 10% from last year. Still expensive, but is a very high spec policy with track cover, dedicated manager, agreed value, etc., so not bad as I was expecting a rise based on current trends.

Agree with you on the 996 shape aging well and also on the exhaust tips! Think I'll try to swap for the simpler turbo ones.

Would have liked a turbo but didn't want the expense.

Good shout on the tips, it was always a strange design decision and not sure why it was made tbh.

I assume if they did it the other way and only had those on the Turbo, that everyone would want them lol.

Weather looking good in a lot of places this weekend, so hope you get the chance to have the roof down.

Having frozen at Silverstone 2 weeks ago, the Brands Hatch racing looks like it will require suncream and a convertible for possibly one of the last warm weekends.

Nice gaff btw. But where are the solar panels? Doesn’t count for aesthetics if they are at the back of the house.

    Christ that's annoying.
Those tips you have are an upgrade and I got them put on mine when I bought the car.
The originals sat up the back of my garden for years but I tossed them a couple of years ago.
Could have been cleaned up fairly easily I would have thought.

The house is NE facing so the panels are on the side/back. If you check what I said in the other thread, my comment on solar panels was:
