Made me feel a bit stupid, work, pay tax, repeat..
For anyone on here looking for a book to read, then I can heartily recommend Taxtopia by The Rebel Accountant.
For some reason I felt compelled to start a thread recommending this book as I didn’t think a book about tax could be as interesting and entertaining as Taxtopia.
If anyone needs a book for holiday etc then give it a go. Really insightful and funny commentary on the mess that is the UK tax system and also shines a light on some of the indiscretions of celebrity tax evaders over the years.
It’s hard not to be amazed at the lengths and mechanics companies and individuals use to avoid tax and how the system is pretty much set up to be exploited by the rich and powerful.
Has anyone else on here read the book?

I fear it would send me into a spiral of despair
I think I’ll give that a go
Does it cover the alter ego of Lorraine ?
Vodafone’s bargain HMRC deal
Or the way the U.K. film industry is err blossoming with the tax rebate scheme ?

Beckham and Jimmy Carr need to get into Bond films
It would just get me annoyed. Plus it’s got a recommendation from Piers Morgan on the cover, so I’d avoid it for that reason also!
Like a cheap version of 'Mrs Doubtfire'
“We did not accept that Ms Kelly simply appeared as herself; we were satisfied that Ms Kelly presents a persona of herself,”

I heard a cracker from one of the big 4 who I used for audit work
They devised a scheme for Footballers - essentially the club would buy (or acquire) cars, watches, clothes jewellery etc then give them to the players to use as 'essential club image' requirements then write them down - off against P&L as you would Plant and Equipment then gift or sell them at a nominal written down figure to the players.
