Jaguar FPace 2022 P400e. Last year £687.27, this year £784.44. Done through ‘Jaguar’ insurance (I know it’s punted out).
Tried Go Compare and could only save about 60 quid so will probably pay up.
My insurer for the past 19-years hiked the renewal price up from £355, to £685.
Confused dot com found a broker doing equivalent insurance at £312.
Job done.

Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.
Absolute piss-take.
Legal requirement yet companies free to charge whatever they feel like - seems bent to me.

I WentCompared, and the quotes for my XC40 T4 were coming in about the same as last year (~£370). Having my 20 year old son as a named driver would have increased it to £2000. Having my other half as a named driver will apparently reduce the premium to £346.

2017 Beemer 5-series tourer, 535. 4th year of insurance of it. I’m mid 40’s and an Advanced Driver/fellow member of IAM.
Last year was an increase too, and many insurers are refusing to quote.
I called a broker and he said that Nottingham had become an area that many didn’t want to do business in, but he couldn’t give me any facts as to why.

I wonder if more insurers are doing what Admiral did BBC News - Admiral car insurance loses thousands of customers

Happy to lose volume but look for profitability

I suspect loads of those people leaving have no choice and can't afford the huge increases. They'll have switched to those branded insurance products underwritten by a third party...ones like AA, RAC, Post Office etc. I'm always a bit suspicious of using those as I always see a few poor reviews from people having to make a claim.
^^^Capitalism. Who’d have thunk it.
£400 to £600 M+S.
Tried a Aviva's site and it was more expensive.
So I guess tough it up and cough up.
As we slowly slide towards socialism the cost of living is increasing. Tax revenue has never been higher yet society is breaking down. But it’s the Tories! Well, they’re certainly a large problem but the lack of personal responsibility also is. I can’t imagine a central insurance fund, where no matter how you drive, insurance is covered would work. Or does socialism have another solution?
Pleasantly surprised with a £10 reduction on my run around on last years premium. Is a 15 year old VW so certainly nothing exotic, but nevertheless expected an increase. £187.00 for the year.
Don’t think I will be quite as fortunate on the Abarth in a few months but we will see…….
I am thinking of getting a second car - I sold my last (and MX5!) 18 months ago. I only need a 'shopping trolley' so got a quote for a newish, basic Toyota Yaris.
Bearing in mind the last policy I had for the MX5 cost around £330 I was rather shocked to be asked for £940 by Direct. Out of interest, I asked for a quote for a new Honda Type R costing twice as much and with three times the power - an extra payment of just £85 (£1025 all in)
How these two quotes are arrived at is beyond me - unfortunately, so is the idea of a second car with insurance costs like this :(
I just did mine and it went up by about 5% so was happy with that. Obviously the initial renewal was a 50% uplift but that soon disappeared after 10 minutes on the phone.
Just to add to the thread, renewed my car insurance for which I paid £549 last year, 25k miles a year, class 2 business cover and 2 other named drivers.
My renewal came in at £859, which I thought I could do better on.
Went to the usual comparison sites, Allianz were the first company I’d actually heard of offering the same cover with a few more bells and whistles for £689, still a 25% or thereabouts hike, but purchased that.
I went back to my current insurer online and clicked through the ‘cancel my renewal’ process at the end of which I got a ‘we don’t want to see you go’ message and an offer to renew at £752…
The usual shenanigans then.
I don't know why they make it so complicated...when I started this thread, I was reinsuring our Ford Fiesta (16 years NCD, no points, no accidents). Most of the major insurers wanted an eye watering £1400 (up from £300-odd the previous year). In the end, found that LV would do it for £580 and went with them. I've just bought a second car for the family, transferring the Fiesta to my wifes NCD and have restarted the quotes. A complete reversal... LV are the outlier that wants £1500 whereas the other insurers are down around £600.
That ^ still sounds expensive for an old Fiesta?
My 2010 Focus was £217 to insure last year with AXA, that is with 13 years of no claims, 59 years old, no accidents or points on licence.. SM5 postal district in S London.
This year AXA wanted £297 to insure the same car.. Did some digging and ended up with Aviva Zero for £182.. No commuting with it , not parked outside my house but I do drive a company van as well.. I did say expected mileage of up to three thousand miles. Last year I drove a total of 980 miles on it from the last MOT.
I didn't bother going back to AXA to see if they could do a better offer than that..

I definitely think it is expensive, especially when my new car is worth 5x the value and is costing the same. I did a thorough check across the comparison sites and that was the best I could get from a main insurer. I’m lead to believe it’s mainly the stats on the car model that drives the price for a particular post code…where I live Fiestas must be in more accidents/get nicked more. I suspect a Focus might be cheaper.
Woke up this morning to a text from my bank telling my I've gone overdrawn! It seems when helping my 80 year old father in-law with his car insurance last year I forgot to uncheck the autorenewal box. The renewal offer previously sent to him in the post had also become email only so went to an account he doesn't really monitor. Therefore his policy had autorenewed for this year overnight and as I'd paid for it last year it came off my bank account. Last year cost £312, this year............£1315 !!! No changes to his circumstances, how can this possibly be justified???
Called and cancelled the renewal first thing (charged an admin fee........grrrrr) and went with a better quote via Moneysupermarket, still £545 but it's never ideal buying insurance on the very day you need it.
So explain why my year old Fiesta ST was renewed this very afternoon for £460?!? - and the named driver made a claim (hit a pheasant in our other car earlier this year) ?!? - I think postcode, number of cars in the household, age and how boring your job is on paper have a massive impact. Seems like a complete lottery tbh

No idea, I just thought it might be a reason why. Obviously not then.

I think all that does come into play, but vehicle make model is factored in heavily. My postcode is always more expensive being Greater London...Fiesta worth about £5k was coming out at £1400 to insure...compare that to a Kia EV worth £30k which was £600, all other factors being the same. You wouldn't previously have thought a car 1/6 of the value is over double the price.
I suspect the fact they were the best selling car in the UK for years and years rather skews the results - more than any other car on the streets so more you can nick!
I read somewhere that with the discontinuation of the Fiesta, they are sought for parts.
I suspect in absolute numbers, the Fiesta is right up there as one of the most stolen in Britain, but that is probably because it is one of the most ubiquitous vehicles. For example, there are supposedly 1.5m on the road compared to about 300,000 Nissan Micra. I'd therefore expect 5 times as many Fiestas to be stolen.
Happy with my Transit campervan insurance renewal. It had gone up, but I have just had it serviced by Ford which has given me 12 months free breakdown cover. Removing the breakdown cover option from my insurance renewal has brought this years premium down to within a fiver of last years. I'll call that a win overall.
My renewal has gone up my £30 to £578 for a 2013 Boxster S. 6,000 mls/yr, 3pts, 1 no fault accident and 2 yrs NCD.
Go figure when seeing some of the quotes here?
Much of this is location based. Even though I live in a nicer area of Greater London, the number of car thefts is ridiculous. Only the other week, my CCTV caught two scumbags hiding behind the hedge in my front garden carrying a huge Stihl angle grinder. Fortunately they weren't after my crappy Fiesta and were on their way once the person on the road had gone (I presume they didn't want to be spotted carrying the angle grinder).
That’s what I never understand about London, and one of the reasons I moved away. Every nice part of London rubs shoulders with the grubby bits, with huge divisions of wealth within very short distances - you’re never far from an individual who wants to take your possessions away. So ultimately it’s all a big melting pot. It seems the insurers have come to the same conclusion!
As an update, had car off the road for a little bit, so I just re-insured with Admiral yesterday and it was £830-ish, with zero NCB as is used elsewhere.
Not cheap, but half of my renewal!!
What has changed - nothing!
It’s just made up as they go along.

Changed from a ten year old XC60 to a 20 plate Focus ST estate....price went up £60 to £400. More than reasonable.
No changes to circumstances but wife's i3s went from £300 to £600. Best i could do was take £40 off that.
For 3k miles a year.
Cheaper getting a taxi etc etc etc
Admiral multicar eventually got us down to £850 for both. A lot of money but not as bad as first thought.
i get that they are panicking about the newer elec cars and the unknowns of repairing them but the i3 has been about since 2014 so you'd think they have pretty good data on them by now, granted they didn't sell in huge numbers tho.
Alternative way of looking at it ...i was actually amazed that it was so cheap in the first place. as it's a carbon tub, batteries etc etc
Yep, and it’s been cheap to run in all that time no doubt.
I quite miss my i3, it was an early 2014 model, great fun to drive as well.
A guy I work with, a pilot, has an i3S in black, great looking thing with the extra bodywork and the lowered suspension, he loves his!
Yep. It's just one of those things you put up with. I used to live "behind the wire" on military bases. Didn't really matter if you left your car or front door unlocked, it was great. Now even if I'm in my garage, I don't like leaving the door up in case someone from the road scopes out something they might want to come back and nick. I'd move out but my wife works in central London and doesn't want to commute further than zone 5.
Renewal through today from Insure Pink (Hastings), 2014 Mazda 3 Sport Nav 164:
Last year £576
This year £1,031
A quick search sees me able to get it for £650ish.
Did my current insurer expect me to roll over and renew without checking? It's a total pi55 take
They seem to don’t they!
Seems like there’s been a shift up for many established insurers, moving up the price range, but seems to be creating room for new entrants to the market, or new brands owned by established insurers.
We’re back to the shopping around to get a reasonable renewal and sod any loyalty I think.
