Cheers buddy, Shaz and me are gutted, Henry has parked it and now looking who is out of contract and who will be snapped up.

Maybe what was needed, it will be interesting to see what happens over the summer regarding the ownership. We cannot compete selling cookery books.

If Leeds play like that in the final, even the Saints cannot live with them. However, being a final and at Wembley, I slightly worry about nerves. Leeds will start as favourites irrespective of the opponent after that. History will not repeat itself ;).

I agree. Leeds were superb tonight and must now be favourites to
    go up. A ruthless display.

Leeds would never get that possession against Southampton, who tend to keep the ball well.

Saints fragile at the back so it's going to have goals if they get through (still need to get past West Brom of course!).

But sad for Wagner, he seemed a decent fella and had achieved a lot this season.

The season has now seen a new sporting director, ownership shifting from Delia to the yanks and now manager out.

    Interesting times.

Sky just panned to an image of Rishi Sunak cheering on Southampton.

Saints vs West Brom showing why we still need VAR, one of the worst refereeing howlers you'll see for ages in not awarding Southampton a penalty.

West Brom were my tip for the playoffs…. One of the better teams I’ve seen in that league

Can’t see past Leeds at this stage

If Leeds play like they did against Norwich this week it should be a walkover. If they play like they played Southampton in the last game of the season, it will be Southampton going back up.

It all depends on which Leeds team turn up on Sunday.

I wish I shared your optimism, but Southampton have already beaten us twice this year and seem to have our measure.

Then again, cup finals are strange things, and a lot will depend on which teams turn up on the day, and to what extent nerves get to everyone.

Congratulations Southampton. Back up 1st time of asking. Saints were Leeds' kryptonite all season.

Commiserations to Leeds, play offs final defeat is always a heartbreaking way to miss out.

Disappointing final that, considering the way both teams have played for most of the season. Thought neither created a great deal and both keepers had relatively little to do but Southampton took their chance whilst Leeds largely huffed/puffed without any of the quality they needed in the final third and too many players underperformed.

I thought Leeds were outcoached today. Southampton marked Leeds' tricky wide players out of the match meaning they were very narrow. That being said Dan James was excellent when he came on.

Horrible way to miss out on promotion though, just like it's probably the best way to gain promotion. Leeds getting 90 points and still not going up is a sickener.

I`m not a big football fan but Leeds is my team and I do like to see them succeed, the result at Wembley spoiled an otherwise excellent day for me, didn`t see the match as I was at a Northern Soul event in Wakefield and that took precedence. I`ve watched the highlights, Southampton's goal (from a Leeds perspective) looks worse every time I watch it, no matter how many times I watch James' shot which hit the crossbar it still doesn`t go in!

I detest the play-off system, after 46 games the table doesn`t lie and the top 3 teams should go up by right, having a sudden death competition to decide the 3rd promotion place is simply commercial exploitation and can`t be justified on a logical basis. It's been in football for a long time now and clearly it's here to stay, still doesn`t make it right IMO.

Leeds lost promotion over the last 5-6 games of the regular season when their form deserted them, play-off was always going to be a lottery.

Of the 4 teams in the play-off Leeds and Southampton were the deserving cases to go up, sadly only one could do so and for me it was the wrong team. Good luck to Southampton, with the gulf between Premier League and Championship they may need it!

If you think the playoff system in football is wrong, you must tear your hair out at the end of the rugby league season!

With regard to Southampton’s chances next season, both Southampton and Leicester were previously long standing premiership clubs so should, in my opinion, stand a better chance of staying up than Ipswich and Forest, and possibly also Brentford and wolves. I have a feeling Everton have turned a corner and will probably be mid table next season.

  45. #595
What cheeky so and so put a request out on a national radio station to play Joy Division, Love Will Tear Us Apart, for their very good friend Ellen Droad. It got mentioned nd played!!!
On a side note, there are some big, big clubs down in the championship continually fighting to get out. Its a tough league and lots of them been premier teams in past 10 years + hence the difficulty getting promoted....
