    New Boy - What's Your Game ?

I'm new here, so though it only polite to say hello.

Got bitten by the watch bug earlier this year when I decided I was bored with my Omega Seamaster Professional that I'd worn daily for about 8 years and fancied a change. I've always liked Cartier Pashas, so did a lot of research and found a good deal for an 'unworn' white Seatimer with metal strap at a place in Burlington Arcade, London. It's a good solid 'chunky' watch, coming in at 180g and feels great on the wrist. But a passing comment from the chap in the shop that some guys 'collect' watches got me thinking. I'd never even considered it before, but it sparked something inside me.

Anyway, the best part of a year later and I've rather thrown myself into it, spending most of my free time reading up (both magazines & internet), creating an ever growing wish list and visiting various watch outlets - not to mentioned the parting of much hard earned cash. But this is my first forum (for anything). Thought it might be interesting to exchange views with like minded souls. So, onto my question - what's your game ?

When I started I decided I needed to have some sort of strategy, as it became apparent rather quickly that there were thousands of different watches out there. So my game is to try and collect as many different brands as possible, but only one from each, for each watch to have some distinguishing feature over and above the others, and to focus on mechanicals. It's only a guide and I'm not necessarily going to stick to it religiously, but it makes it a challenge. I've listed my current acquisitions below -it's a fairly eclectic list, but I only ever buy watches I actually like the look of and want to wear, it's just that my tastes are wide and varied.

And finally, my current dream watch - something a bit quirky, but beautifully engineered (not to mention mind bogglingly expensive) - the Urwerk UR202.
(I would attach a picture, but need to work out a way to reduce the file sizes)

Welcome. Nice collection you've got there already. One of each brand is not the way I've gone myself but it's a good strategy. If you've got to have just one Tag Heuer it should definitely be the Autavia re-issue (and not just because I'm trying to build it up before selling mine!).

I agree about the Urwerk incidentally. Gorgeous but impractial to wear. Not that that's a problem as the chance of me actually owning one is zero.

    Thanks Dave

Yep, the Autavia's lovely and mine's also the re-issue, in white. The dial's so clean and fresh and the touches of blue are a masterstroke - it always gets attention, more so than some of my more expensive watches.

One thing that I have noticed to date is that there aren't as many blue themed watches out there as there should be. Omega clearly has a number, but the rest are missing a trick. They go so well with jeans and yes, I'm afraid I do dress to match the watch I feel like wearing that day !

    Sad but true.

    Hi Chris

I need to work out how to reduce picture file sizes on my Mac.

I've tried to upload one under the 80k limit, but get an error message that the board attachment quota has been reached.

Am I just being dim ?

    Thanks

Best way is via photo host - I use photobucket, and one can set it to automatically reduce photo size to the 800 x 600 required by the forum.

Yep, I'll get my act together on the posting photo's front.
Have sorted out the resizing issue, just can't seem to upload at the moment.

Welcome aboard. You picked one of the best places to start with Watch Fora.

Is this the model you are interested in?

Very unusual. Had never heard of Urwerk's before. Read a bit here -

    Welcome to the madhouse

Have a gameplan for 2009 after quite a chaotic 2008 buying and selling various watches which have caught my eye.

Aiming for one of these beauties for 2009 -

    Sinn 203 Arktis

    Or

    Omega Planet Ocean 42mm

Have a couple of Omegas (Seamaster and Speedmaster) and a couple of others which I wear on rotation and looking to slowly expand the collection over the next couple of years.

Sure, thanks to Chris I'm now set on photobucket, so here you go...

It's a bit 'in yer face', which isn't normally my style, but it's clean classical lines won me over and it's a great dress watch. It's also my wife's favourite, as she's into her jewellery and it doesn't do any harm keeping her onside !

Yep, that's the baby. Not seen one in the flesh, but I'm sure it wouldn't disappoint.

Check out 'The Movie' at their website...
