I see you haven't got a reply. I'm far from an expert but here's my $0.02 worth.

I would say "don't try". I've gone so far as to replace a battery and get the thing ticking again, but I did also dislocate the dial in the process. You will need some tools to get the back and hands on and off, plus gaskets, plus know-how (the crown sometimes has a little release stud thing on the back of the movement, I think). Far cheaper and less risky to take it to some watchie somewhere, who may not charge you much more than a battery change.
