    Window shopping in Singapore

Spent a few nice hours walking around a few of the great watch stores in Singapore today.
Managed to take a few pics and thought that I’d share them. Please excuse the bad quality, it’s not easy (for me at least) to get good pics from store displays behind glass and under spotlights etc.
Not to mention the fact that taking pics is seldom approved so I had to be pretty quick about it.
Hope you like them anyway! :)

    A nice box of goodies,

    Closer,

    Something for the ladies,

    PP in style,

    PP in bling(!),

    Some GP,

    Chopard,

    Kampfschwimming in style?

    Various goodies,

And finally, meet the new love of my (WIS)-life :love4: (despite it’s functionality wise crude movement),

    Thanks for looking.

    /Stefan

    OMG!!!

Some great watches there!! I understand why you saved those cheap ass Rolexes to last.

Thanks for sharing. And I understand why you like that last Chopard so much! I hope you can gather enough funds for it

Well, it was an intensive day  but I can give it a try at least.
    I went to:
    - Takashimaya Mall (Orchard Rd). Not 100% sure but I think the stores were "Hour Glass" and "Sincere".
    - Lucky Plaza Mall (Orchard Rd), "Sincere".
    - The Paragon Mall (Orchard Rd). "Cortina Watch" and a few others.
    - Raffles City Mall (Stamford Rd). "Cortina Watch".
    - Raffles Hotel (North Bridge Rd), "The Hour Glass", Breguet store, Blancpain store, Rolex store.

Also visited a store on Coleman Street where a very nice member of the staff showed me the DSSD and chatted a bit in general about watches.
Not sure which store that was (but it was part of the "Peninsula Plaza Mall" IIRC, the shop faced the street so you didn't go inside the mall). Perhaps member "Elshan" knows?

I had the regular version for a while, very nicely made and beautiful piece in my humble opinion.

The shop facing the street was most probably The Hour Glass

Orchard Road is about the best place you could go shopping for watches with about every single AD within walking distance. If you're on the hunt for used pieces though I do know a couple of places who won't rip you off on the prices depending on the brand!

I asked a bit about where to go for vintage/2nd hand but I mostly got the answer that all those shops were so expensive compared to the market in Europe anyway.
Found that a bit odd really :? since there ought to be a connection with the retail market/AD's, and they give fair discount as far as I can tell.

After much shopping and browsing through the SC I think most PAMs are pretty competitively priced over here. Just a recent comparison would be the 233 used would go for maybe 6000GBP over here. As for vintages I'm afraid I won't be much help in that area!

    Amazing
That's such a lot of exotic pieces to take in all at once. Certainly not all to my tastes though but I must admit I really like the IWC's and is that a solid gold Radiomir?

    Great pictures.

    A side note.

Having seen the damage the Singaporean climate can do to watches (and to me), I'd never buy another secondhand watch that had spent time there. Nor, for that matter, a new one.

I have worked there a few times and the last time I bought 8 watches, all of which are still in perfect working order. WTF has the Singapore climate got to do with anything ???? It never did myself, Big M or any of my watches any harm whatsoever.

Er ... harm? Well ... S'pore has got to be one of the most humid urban climates on Earth. And watches don't like that, do they?

I have to agree with the humidity levels over here but the only thing I could see it affect would be the straps. I would make it a point to wear my beater whenever there is the slightest hint of perspiration in the upcoming day's activities. My prized collections would be saved for the air conditioned comfort that's thankfully quite widely available!

Thanks for posting, but most of those watches are too bling / fussy for my taste & I don't like all that "shrink wrap" either.

Sure it got a bit humid some days but I've been in worse places and regarding the watches I don't think it is that much of an issue. Never did any of ours any harm. After a few Tiger Beers it was the least of my worries

I too have bought many watches from Singapore and have never had any issues at all, most of my better watches were bought second hand from a couple of shops in the hartlands ( the non touristy areas where the locals live).
when you were in Colman street you where very close to King wah a great place to buy Seikos way below list, 40% off fortis and luminox. he is a good guy.

Dont think I'll be able to check it out before I leave but it's fun to have something to look forward to on my next visit. :)

Not sure what he has in always worth a look , its a little tiny shop just behind the shop you were in, used to be a bit of a jumble but he has refurbed the shop.
I peronally liked to look in the used shops there is one in the peninsula plaza on the ground floor one side is all rolex and the other has a wide stock of normally nice watches.
but my favs are in Yishun and a one at paya lebar just under the MRT station easy to get to.
Just tell her your a friend of "Porter" I'm sure she will give you a good deal! ( its my mate she always calls him if she has something he wants)
    happy shopping

very nice Chopard must admit to a hankering for a mille miglia myself

Seriously, a great city state and a shoppers paradise. It is where my now 15 year old Rolex came from. It did need frequent rinsing while I lived there though. :)

    Re: Window shopping in Singapore

So far, the GS are only available at their headquarters at Thong Sia Building and some select city chain boutiques (I think the one at City Hall MRT train station carries them). Thong Sia is in orchard road and opposite the paragon shopping centre (I think all the big watch dealers have a shop in the paragon as well)...

Prospex series are even harder to find.. I have only seen them once or twice in the past 5-6 years in the odd watch shop... no luck getting anything close to 10% off list...

For second hand watch shops, you can try the bencoolen shopping centre near Bugis MRT station... http://www.monstertime.com (run by Alvin Lye, owner of Azimuth, btw Azimuth has some cool offerings this season), heirloom gallery http://www.heirloom2.com

    Hope the above helps...

Me neither and they had a 3 Bridges as well - last time I saw one of those its was £110,000. Poss one of the most expensive watches shown.

The VC (first picture) was also rather nice along with the Breguet Cuff Links - well I liked them

    Thanks for posting the pictures

    Re: Window shopping in Singapore

I'll bump this thread with another SG report.
This time I had the possibility to go and visit the fairly new hotel/mall complex "Marina Bay Sands".

It was not so far from the hotel I stayed at so I ventured there on foot, after a short walk I could make out the destination ahead,

    Some SG seafront,

By this time I had begun to curse my decision not to take a taxi, but I'm almost there.

Not sure what this structure is,

    Almost there now,

    Futuristic walkway,

    Some view from the walkway,

    Finally there!

Once inside one can see that it is not completely finished yet.

Here was an odd thing amongst the shoppers,

Enough of the acrobatics, time to check out the watches!
Please excuse the quality of the pics, the spotlights make it very tricky to take decent pics. Plus most shops are NOT keen on people taking pictures of their displays, so one has to be quick.
    Here we go!

    Frank brings da bling!

A Legend Diver in gold perhaps?

    The latest cufflinks from Omega,

    Some Tag,

    Some more FM.

This watch carries a price tag of 1.8 million SGD!

Next to my greasy GMT2C for some perspective,

    A Bvlgari alá Gerald Genta,

After that I headed up to the top to check out the view.

    A high level wrist shot,

    Views,

On the back there are a lot of construction going on,

    Ships, the hallmark of Singapore,

    The platform,

    More views,

Enough scenery, time to check out the watches I missed on my first sweep!

    Azimuth, a local brand,

    More upscale again,

Have money but need belt? Here is the thing for you:

I managed to get through the day without buying anything. :) (though if I had not just committed to a purchase before I left for this trip the outcome might well have been different...)
