More sad news. I found him hugely entertaining, and he inspired my interest in cooking. RIP.
Keith Floyd has also passed away today. Possibly a man with some flaws, but a tremendous character who made some excellent programmes in his day.

RIP. Did anyone else see his last interview with Keith Allen last night, he wasn't looking in the best of health it has to be said.

I did, the old rascal was up to all of his old tricks. A character to be sure, and as entertaining and controversial as ever.Originally Posted by boddah

Bound to be on 4OD to watch for the next week at least.Originally Posted by Seabadger

Larger than life and such an interesting presenter, with so many robotic PC TV chefs around he stood out and broke the mould. RIP
Really sad news... loved his cooking programs and he was a trail blazer for the "TV Chef" industry all those years ago.
RIP KF
I can't stand the current glut of celeb chefs, there are just too many of them, however, I saw the last 5 minutes of the Keith Meets Keith program last night and it made me think that what is needed on TV is another celeb chef with a bit of charisma. Unfortunately I can't see the BBC using another Keith Floyd, if one exists that is.
I've been a fan since day one, really sad. :( But as others have said he looked very frail on TV last night.
F.T.F.A.
he,s been my favourate chef for years now i thought he would live for years with all the red wine and fish he consumed :o R.I.P :(
I saw the programme last night....quite enjoyed it but he did look like he was reaping the results of his excessess.
I remember watching his programmes-always enjoyed them.
And it amused the crap out of me when they said the doctors mentioned that his liver was in perfect health and working order.
+1 - he was a real character and very entertaining.Originally Posted by hogthrob

RIP Keith Floyd a former Bristolian!
A friend of mine used to live next door to his restaurant, stories of his drunken antics were legendary :lol:Originally Posted by Bry1975

I thought he was overall a decent bloke.

Was he really only 65 ?. My god what a good example for drink in moderation.
Love watching his programs and a real cook, imho, and constantly adjusting as real chefs do, also not too self-conscious as so many are today.
RIP
Very few like him and I really thankful he made so many good shows.
R.I.P.

GOT...TO...KILL...CAPTAIN STUPID!
Not a TV cooking fan at all but I always liked his shows and read a couple of his books which were just as entertaining.
Very sad. :(
RIP.
Cheers,
Neil.
He used to make me laugh.

Whole chunks of my life come under the heading "it seemed like a good idea at the time".
That's OK, he didn't think much of you either. I think this would have been a good time to take the advise that if you haven't got anything good to say about someone, it's better to say nothing.Originally Posted by steptoe
Well, one thing's for sure.............he won't need embalming
Always enjoyed watching him, and he brought Rick Stein to TV attention, which I am grateful for. R.I.P.

Funny, irreverent, largely indifferent to the norms of TV cooking. A man who enjoyed his wine and food, even to excess. We certainly need more like him on TV to-day.
RIP
And they probably won't dare cremate the bugger either. Floyd is the only TV chef I have given any attention to and he will be missed. The Telegraph obituary is a fairly amusing warts-and-all account.Originally Posted by chrisb

In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.
First of the genre, I enjoyed his style immensely - RIP
When you look long into an abyss, the abyss looks long into you.........
On Sunday by coincidence I took the boat up the Dart to a pub that Keith used to own, in his day it was called Keith's Inn (sometime), now (as it was before him) it's the Malsters Arms. He owned it back in the early 90's and when he was in residence it was a superb place to dine or drink, he was exactly the same as his on-screen persona - and always pleasantly drunk, but too foul-mouthed for some!
He lost it in 1996 due to bankruptcy, just prior to that we'd gone up there again by boat and had a lunch, but the service was stayed far too long that we nearly grounded the boat on leaving(the river at Tuckenhay is tidal and dries out) and all I could do was tilt the engine to the point we could just make headway - but with an enormous rooster of mud kicking out of the stern.

Are you a fan of Totnes Mr Ralphy?

He didn't ponce around with 'dry ice and dribbles' and I thank him for the laughs he gave me. :salute:
And he was a Rolex wearer for quite awhile :D
Yes very sad to see him go.
I bought a set of his dvds off amazon a couple of months back and have been watching them off and on.
Hugely enjoyable - (including trying to work out what watch he had - Omega?) - but the cooking was as great as the travel report... he had a real Englishman abroad attitude but the 'good' type, who gets on with and mixes with the locals...
What has that got to do with being an utter pisshead who looked 95 ??Originally Posted by Griff

RIP, great character.
It suggests.......does it not..........that his most recent appearance was affected by his illness rather than what he drank..........THAT'S what it's got to do with!!!!!Originally Posted by steptoe

Don't go there much Bry, tends to be Salcombe area more as that's where my RIB lies, it was Bow Creek on Sunday just because the tide times worked out, plus one nervous passenger who 'didn't want to go out to sea' (she's been with me one before  ).Originally Posted by Bry1975

Arr oks,
So are the predicted tide times quite precise or is it like the weather?
Not really - when he was 55 he looked 80 - :DOriginally Posted by Griff
Just being blunt, like keith.
I will raise a glass and have a slurp for him tonight.
A true bon vivant and an artist of life has passed away..
Sure whish i someday get the chance to taste and experiance what he did..
Oh dear, another loss. Enjoyed his antics from an early age circa 1986 when he first hit the box.
One of the icons from my younger days. Sad to see such a unique personality go.

Keith Floyd, Two Fat Ladies and the Hairy Bikers are the only celebrity chefs that I would watch cook, oh and Nigella of course but not for her cooking. God rest his soul.
Made Gordon "Wow I must be cool to say F*CK all the time " Wamsey look like a Sou chef .
Really sad, he was very entertaining and a real legend.
I was only watching him last night with keith Allen on C4, which was excellant, good to see him so sharp, but sad that while I was watching he must have already passed on.
he was due to start filming on a new project next week. SAD :(
RIP, I will have a beer for him later.
