Last time I looked they were as good as useless. They were equivalent to cash and cost about £10 to issue. The post office just advised me to stick cash in an envelope and send it Special delivery.
Probably a silly question, but as a seller are they a safe way of taking payment? As good as cash? No scams or anything to worry about?

But as a seller.....yes they are as good as cash effectively. You can cash them in at the PO or deposit them in a bank a/c
Never had any problems with PO's. Just cash them at the Post Office and you receive the face value.
Thats true, have used in past, great if your the seller, costly otherwise.
Remember to keep the 'stub' before you send them. I believe if you do this then it can be put into a bank account.
you can only cash them at the post office if they are uncrossed...
if they have been crossed then they will have to be taken to a bank for cashing (fairly sure they hsave to stand as a cheque does (to clear  , it's not like the PO have no money behind them :!: )
john :)
im suprised pepole still use them ,they cost money a few pounds to buy and then you have to send them surely a bank transfer is cheaper and more efficent :)
Would a cheque or banker's draft not be a better payment method than POs? Less hassle and no additional costs.
Just to clarify, I am selling something on eBay, and have been asked if I will accept a PO.
Thanks for all the replies.
It's better for you if they pay by PO as they pay the fees (around 10%)
if they pay with paypal, you pay the fees
john :)
