Mornin’
I received my watch back on Saturday from Roy. I’d sent it off a few days earlier as a bag of bits that I had collected since winning the auction with the case.
I’ve imported parts from all over the world. The case came from Tasmania, the crown came from the Netherlands, the strap came from the US and both the dial and the case back came from fellow forum members in the UK.
I think it looks great for what I’ve paid, worked out that I had spent about £40 after selling the other cases that were included with the auction.
Only got a couple small faults with it…
- The lume on the dial and on the hands doesn’t match (to be expected though due to the age difference).
- The condition of the case (due to poor storage), however I could have it re-finished at some point.
- The case back isn’t quite large enough, although it does have the correct thread diameter.
But I’m just picking fault with it (afraid it’s in my nature )
Anyway I suppose I’d better post some photos too…
Hope you all like it as much as I do.
Any comments welcome of course (positive or negative)
Cheers for all your previous help!
Tom.

It's a bit of a quirky looking watch but I quite like it. I didn't know they were ever available with the signed dial.

Excellent job, it must be very satisfying getting it all together like that, enjoy it now :)

Yeh I like the case too, was always annoyed that I missed out when Roy made them.Originally Posted by seadog1408
I went with the Mercedes hands because the case is from the 80/90s and I think they were quite commonly used with TAG back then. Although personally I prefer sword hands
Definitely quirky, but I like them like that. I've also got this Tissot TwoTimer that's 'unique' :lol:It's a bit of a quirky looking watch but I quite like it. I didn't know they were ever available with the signed dial.

I think Roy used TAG signed crowns but they were gnarled, unfortunately I couldn't find one of those though.
Cheers for all the feedback and comments.Originally Posted by WORKSIMON
Like that. Very nice job. Would look even better if you could get the lume on the hands and the markers matching.
You should be able to match the marker and hand lume quite easily.
Imo these hands might be better:-
Not sure how to re-lume dials, does anybody know of any how-to articles? Or would it be better to send it off to someone?Originally Posted by Bry1975
Yeh those hands are nice, but if I were going to change them I’d go for sword hands
Thanks for all your suggestions!
Nobody answered m question about the TAG dial, I think it's fake.

Yup dial doesn't look brilliant. I've got the same dial here but it's for the GMT and is a genuine dial.
Tom speak to Jurgen if you want a better Tag dial and Tag hands.

Looks good- but a bracelet would make it look better IMO.
Think it looks really special, you have made a great work
Have i missed something?Originally Posted by swanbourne
I like the case, mad and quirky but don't like the cathedral hands.
As far as I know TAG never put a dial into these cases, it was never commercially released as a model. All the RLT ones were supplied with a sterile dial. Happy to be corrected though.Originally Posted by TomWazza

Oh sorry, I thought you meant the dial was fake.Originally Posted by swanbourne
Yeh your right this case was never put into production fully, but i managed to source a case on eBay and bought a dial seperately as i wanted it to look like a TAG.
Really sorry to bump this back up to the top, but can i get some opinions on this...
Not sure whether it makes it look 'stealthy' or whether it makes it looks cheap.
Thanks in advance,
Tom.
Tom, how have you managed that?, is it photoshopped or what??, all the best, James.
Lol, i haven't done it yet, but seriously thinking about it.
I ended up using paint.net and autocad. Was a long process but worth it to see what the case might look like.
It looks nice, would'nt like to say what looks best though.
James.
Very interesting Tom,
Be nice to know how you rendered it in ACAD. I've designed lots of rendered 3D stuff in Acad but no idea how you render 2D objects.

Well i say render quite loosely I guess
To make that photo i used three images xreffed into the drawing and laid them on top of each other. Then quickly drew an outline around the case and the dial.
The first image has the background. The second image has the case and dial with a semi transparent black rectangle on it (created in paint.net) and clipped around the case using extended clip. The third image is the dial (as i didn't want the black rectangle over it).
Hope that makes sense, I'm even a little confused now
Thanks,
Tom.
Arr ic Yup the glass looks alittle dodgy, but overall very impressive. I should enrol at college again and get the 2009-2010 equivalent of Acad or Autodesk mechanical desktop!
However if i had a copy of photoshop I think it might have been a touch simpler that that lol
