do it and if you can go away from the ledge? cant, sorry.
I've recently been mulling the notion of selling my beloved PRS-14 toward a MM300 fund. Am I mad? The PRS-14 is a fantastic piece, rare and likely never to be owned again. The MM300 is, well, just another Seiko....right?
Asking for psychotherapy from this bunch is usually counterproductive, but I'm open to everyone's opinions and abuse. To preempt the inevitable baseline response: owning both is not an option.

Don't get them myself :? now if you were asking about the Orient star 300m I would tell you to stop messing about and get on with it.
Seiko 300m, Pah, Orient any day of the week.

Seiko, shmeiko. Get a proper watch
I'm not helping really am I?
Paul
How about one of these instead? Then you could keep the '14. :D
As much as I loe the look of tthe OS300 mentioned above, horologically (i.e. engineering, heritage, innovation, history) it can't hold a candle to the MM300. No other dive watch in that price range can (and very few in any price range can). It is the best dive watch I am aware of for US$2000. Get it.
and that is my point, the Orient isn't $2000 especially if bought used via SC. I paid £550 I think from memroy so $1100. Heritage or no heritage the Orient is superbly engineered, I'm not saying the MM300 isn't I just have never understood the sil;ly money they go for.Originally Posted by jason recliner

You'll be disappointed in the accuracy, and regulation will be difficult as it's a "front loader". Did that work?
Enjoy your new Seiko,
Myles
If you have to ask, the MM300 is not for you
Wearing it as we speak :)
My favorite sportswatch in my little collection, by far.
So, don't ask me, I won't talk you away.
Cheers,
Daddel.
Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!
Having owned a MM300, the watch is such a great piece of engineering .. I've also owned a PRS-14 & whilst a great watch is not in the same league as the Seiko.

This watch is superb.Seiko MM300 - Talk me away from The Ledge
Great movement, great quality.
But are you a diver ?
Have you got Hulk's wrists ?
if you don't, then don't buy it, and keep your money for the Spring Drive 600.... :D
I have one and think it is probably the perfect watch.
I love it on the rubber, it is a little too heavy on the bracelet IMHO.
If I had any complaints it would be the hands....would have preferred something different. Also the crown screw in, I have a couple of Tunas and these feel so much more secure and smooth when being screwed in.
Don't get me wrong...I love this watch, I'm just being honest.
Regards
Gerard
You hear these stories about the crown, but isn't that resolved in the newer ones?
Mine is smooth as butter.
And as for the hands, I just love those, the brushed/polished finish is amazing 8)

Daddel.

Goddammit. :x Just when I though I had weaned myself off needing one of these... GREAT pics.

My vote goes to the Orient
just do it, you won't regret a MM300... I haven't :D
When was choosing a watch like this ever about logic ? I want one and I am a runt in physical terms. to quote the comic - " over the cliff, Lemming ". Get it, try it, if it does not work out I am sure there are lots of nice people here who would be glad to help you flip it. Yes, I am biased!
I won't trade it...just wait a couple of months and keep both of them!
Very tempting. I may look for one in the near future. However, I think I must resist for a while.
Sorry I can't help to talk you away.

Thanks for all the input (and the pics). The title could very well have been "Please talk me into jumping off this Ledge".
What's really attracted me to the MM300 in the first place is how well proportioned it seems to be, in a way that the Orient seems to just miss. They're just one of those watches that I notice in the Friday thread every week and think "Wow, that really looks great!". Especially the hands! Also somehow seems to perform some sorcery of looking big and small at the same time.
(BTW-- The Friday thread is sort of like a forum for spreading this disease; only thing worse is SC.)
This watch is superb.

No-- not a diver, but when has that stopped anybody.
Hulk wrists-- no, but big enough.
MM600 is a fascinating option, but edging away from beauty (and is bigger anyway, right?). And what's with those bolt-on things between the lugs???
Quoll's suggestion might be the most practical. Scratch the itch with your nails, not your knives.

Mine's not been opened and is running under -1s a day on the wrist, which is where I tend to keep it most of the time these days! But you get a high-end, in-house auto movement in one of the most distintively designed cases. So I will worry about access to the movement come service time. Not a big trade off imo.Originally Posted by Selym

Every watch a story.
DO NOT BUY THE MM 300 !
Then Your other watches will live in a hideous and dark watch box all their lives ...
I think it's stunning and if I had the funds I wouldn't hesitate!
Each to his own though...
