    Re: KING OF DIVERS

    Oh yeah... a real beater

    Here's mine

This model has been issued to the famous Shayetet 13, the Israeli Navy Seals in the beginning of the 70's

Easy to spot, the issued watch have specific maks on the caseback

From right to left, you have the "y" (Tzade) for Tzahal, then serial number, the "J" (nun). Unfortunately, there is a large number of fake caseback....

Your model is the second and mine the third model of first generation.

    1st model

    2nd model

Next generation are very 70's in their design

The watch is powered with the Eterna-matic 1498k caliber

    A very nice catch

    Re: KING OF DIVERS

i think from the 3rd models movement are besed upon ETA, also the military watches.

so i think the the 1st and 2nd generation are better, a really manufacture

the watch i post is not a military one but is incredible because the cristal is original with the 5 points of eterna brand in the middle !!!!

this is rare also because the bezel (used but original) is not a standard diver bezel (sub time)

it is a very good timekeeping. perfect.

It can be argued that Eterna is the only company that can claim ETA calibres as "in-house"
I do not know the difference in calibre between the 2nd and 3rd however.

The bezel is the correct one for 2nd gen Kon Tiki. Cannot see the 5 dots on the glass.

Do not mixed model and generation

First generation had 3 different models

yours is 1st generation 2nd model with standard 2d model bezel (look at the add i've posted)

mine is 1st generation 3rd model, 5 balls crystal marked as well....

One of the specifics is the gilt dial, only available on kontiki super

And no ETA inside; yours is powered with the 1480K, mine with 1498K, both manufacture calibers

    Best :)

These are cool divers and often overlooked for the better known (and expensive) Subs and Seamasters - and yet value for money, if you can find a good one, is excellent.

    Can't agree more with you....

.... even if seamaster and sub should also be in every truly diver watch collectionner box IMHO

(sorry for that bad picture )

As an owner of a SM Cosmic 2000 60m that I restored, I agree totally with your assessment of what makes up the essential divers collection (not up to a Sub yet though ...) - apologies for the dusty pic of the watch.

    I especially like this one

Totally underevaluated (my cheapest one) but a real beater on the wrist

The super compressor case with twin crowns and the tritium patina give the watch an incredible look 8)

Not my favorite... but close enough !

But to stay focus with the subject, here is an other ad of your watch ;)

Indeed, have to admit that for me I'm freaky about dot markers on divers faces, so it would need to be a Bond SMP in my case. Not denigrating the Kon Tiki in any way though, can still see the influence on modern Seikos, of which the Samurai is currently my fave.

Thank You for showing some rare and great divers :)

My choice for "King of Divers":

Historical roots, Monocoque SS watch case, inhouse 8L35 movement (shared with Grand Seiko automatics), Phenomenal lume, Superb finish for the price and a watch than can stand being used every day :P

What a great watch. Eterna has always been very under rated. Today their watches meet the same standards of the Swiss big names, but unfortunately, they are just not as well regarded as the big names

Before the name kontiki meant little to me,
after I visited the kontiki museum I was so impressed!

It really is a great name for a watch!

    what an adventure!!!
