Most of mine are under £1000 - and a £300-400 price point is more typical. I did spend a hideous amount on a Navitimer last year though. But it was a special occasion, is was a gift (to me, but I negotiated the purchase) and I did get 20% off list. Still over £3000 though.

Re: Poll: Most expensive watch you've ever bought?

Just about £2500 on each of these.
Both second hand.(Prefer to go second hand route as you get more watch for your money, and truth be known I am skint!!)

I have a few around this price I would want to get ie Sub/GMT/Seadweller etc and will happily pay this price when funds allow.
This is however how I like to do it, with a superb buy like this for great money

Watch collecting is a disease I have no remedy for

Up until now £900 on an smp a few years ago. Although many balk at the price for a single watch you can only wear one at a time. I'm sure if collectors start adding up their modest collections they'll be quite alarmed at overall spend. Sometimes tempting to consolidate in something special but It's just a fact that one watch is never enough .

Re: Poll: Most expensive watch you've ever bought?

Most expensive watch I have bought is getting close to my £2k maximum spend on any one watch and that is my Speedmaster 50th Anniversary Patch. Like a couple have commented, I used to think carefully about spending a couple of hundred quid on a watch, but now if the funds are available and I like it, I will buy it.

Also, have been looking at things slightly north of my self imposed limit - like a second hand Rolex Explorer II and I am sure as soon as I break that disciplined stance, my willpower will go out of the window and he floodgates will open - but I'm not there yet, still enjoying my Speedmaster :)

I felt a bit underwhelmed when I got mine - certainly didn't seem like it was worth the money.

Got to say that after I got over the shock and received my next month's pay packet I started to warm to it and now it's a definite keeper.

Still don't think it's worth the RRP though...

The most expensive is also the one I wear the least...not sure it was a great purchase and every once in a while I think about moving it on, and luckily it'd still land me a few grand profit, which is nice......S/S Daytona, bought before the RRP went silly. ;)

    Summed up nicely

My lust for Seikos means that I can get some attractive bullet proof watches for far less than £250, and I do love to hunt out the bargains.

Within my el-cheapo collection I have an all original 6105-8110 diver in lovely condition, a 6138-0011, loads of 6139's, a 5m23-6a10 "baby tuna" that is now sitting in a mint nos case, none of which have cost me anywhere near £250

Re: Poll: Most expensive watch you've ever bought?

About £650 in 1996. It seemed a fortune at the time and I'm not sure if I'd want to spend much more than that now. I don't think I'd ever go into four figures.

It's this one for me, second hand from sales corner a few weeks back.

I have bought a few in the 2k-3k range but haven't gone through the 3k barrier yet. However, I tried on a DSSD at the Rolex service centre in Bexley when I took my Sub in for a service recently (the service guy was really friendly and noticed my Ingenieur), and I can see one in my future!

I've also been hankering after an AP Royal Oak but after seeing an AP service bill on here a couple of months ago I think I'll be waiting a fair few years to scratch that itch!

Wow, £25,001 or more - would love to have the money to be able to think about buying a watch of that value!

My Breitling Superocean is the most expensive (so far) for me, although even that took a fair few years of pursuading of SWMBO.

You all must be millionaires on here. My most expensive was £100 for a Seiko bellmatic 4006-6027 (and I had to think long and hard about spending that much!!)

A couple of grand for an IWC Portofino dress watch was the most I have paid (so far ...) - but I have several watches around the 1200 - 1500 mark so collectively it adds up.

Luckily my darling wife, a high school maths teachers never does the math on the watch box!

It all started with a Seiko Divers Quartz..and has been rising ever since.
But this has been the most I've spent.

Re: Poll: Most expensive watch you've ever bought?

A Rollie GMT Master II "Coke" new back in 1994 which cost me about Oz$5k from memory. Sold it in 2002 for about half that, kinda wish I hadn't now (considering what they're worth now) even though I never saw where the money went with it. Crap bracelet, puny little crown, never better than +7secs per day despite several visits to Mr Rolex's workshop. Bezel fell off (naked GMT = yuk!), refitted it myself. Not a happy relationship, although it was a reliable companion and daily wearer for over 7 years.

I'll admit it - I swallowed the whole marketing/image/"Superlative Chronometer - Officially Certified" guff. 'Bout the only one that comes near to rocking my boat these days is a nonDS SD, but not for the money they go for.

Re: Poll: Most expensive watch you've ever bought?

the most expensive watch that I bought is the Rolex GMT steel/gold 116713! I still have it and it's very nice!
But if I could afford it, I would buy more expensive watches (Royal Oak Offshore, Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, Rolex Gold Submariner,....)

JLC Reverso Grande Date. List at the time was £5495, managed to snag it practically unused for a signifcant saving on that. Conversely my transitional 5513, which I bought for about £900 in NYC a few years back, is now worth 3-4x that depending on which eBay listing you believe...

Don't think i could spend much more than a SBIII.

But a Bathys Benthic or Seiko MM300 could persuade me.

That's assuming i could ever even think about affording those of course

    Which i can't

The 70 EUR I spent in 1989 for a Swatch were at his time for me much more then the (about) 1.200 EUR I spend 1995 for a 14060.
So the most expensive would be around 3.000 EUR for a 16610 but this still is less then the 70 EUR in 1989 :-)
