Drool! i've gotta add that one to my wish-list, especially being the SQ. Dont see them come up for sale very often.Originally Posted by Phil Lee
LOL - i dont do practical as a rule (i recently bought an alfa romeo - cant get more stupid than that if you want something practical!) but if you had to choose only "one" watch as opposed to "the one", you gotta consider practical (hence the trusty BMW for backup ;) )Originally Posted by andrew

Discreet, timeless, stylish, bit of history, personal associations - that'll do -
dare I say this......
Another vote for the ND sub.
No picture but mine would be a Vacheron Constantin Chrono Overseas. I saw the one on sales corner and was very tempted but given my impending move I had to watch it go.
Another vote for the watch that launched the thread, or that might launch a thousand posts. But now with some visuals:
Few match it. I haven't tried it in dressish situations, but might soon.
+1 for the No Date Sub....
or do I prefer my 42mm PO?
Oh no, I can't decide.......feck!
In a past life, the Seamaster GMT was is, but the improved case, bracelet, crown, lume, and bezel on this one makes it perfect for me.
The 3706 satisfies most of my needs (today) - it's a sensible size, it tells the time, day and date, it is a chronograph, it is useable in the pool (wr to 60m) and it has a soft iron inner case providing protection against magnetic fields (and the crystal won't pop out if the watch experiences a sudden drop in pressure).
Noice, innit?
But as nice as...............

Thats very nice! never saw one with a black dial before?Originally Posted by Stanford
Sub gets my vote also great in any situation!
The 3706 is now discontinued although the Spitfire is one of the 'styles' that has been continued in the guise of the larger cased 3717 :)Originally Posted by Olic

Easy one for me  :P
Sub ND for me.

Seconded, but with white dial and blue hands!
Carl F. Bucherer Travelgraph for me - GMT, chrono, smart, sporty, done.
Men in matt black gulfman
Tells the time and it is bullet proof.
:D
Only joking
I am choosing from what i own at the moment as it is easier (otherwise it might be a SD or DSSD), I always this watch , it feels perfect and if i had to get rid of all my other watches, I would keep this one.
SMP 2254.50
But hopefully I will have to chose just one watch.
Here and now, it's this one...
Good with a suit & jeans (a quick strap swap to change it's look), understated, rugged and British (well designed anyway).

Don`t have a picture of mine, but we all know what it looks like:
Rolex Explorer 1 gets my vote. Water proof enough for my needs, the ideal size for me, very easy to read in all light conditions and whilst driving, looks right with any clothing (casual/dressed up etc). Not too opulant but very classy, I absolutely love mine.
From a practicality standpoint it wins hands-down; every surface on this watch can be refinished/repolished. All the elaborate dive watches/ chronos that have a 'rugged' image also have a bezel which is easy to mark/damage and costly to replace; not so with the Explorer 1. The bracelet can easily be refinished and the clasp, whilst feeling a bit tinny when opened, is as safe and secure as you could wish for.
I rest my case

1983 Swatch quartz started the new mechanical watch revolution and responsible to turn us into the wis we are!
Rolex 16710 GMT11 pepsi. Rugged, classy, waterproof way more than I will ever need, and has an iconic status amongst people around the world that appreciate a good watch. In production for 56 years with subtle changes that now has transformed into the 11C. But in the spirit of the question asked I would have to say that Eddie's Speedbird 111 comes extremely close & of course costs a lot less money.
Gorgeous watches folks!
But I go 100 percent with Geralt on this one--the Hamilton Khaki King Automatic. I prefer it with the SS bracelet.

No photos cuz I'm about to buy one. Again. I had one a while back, and very foolishly sold it when I got the Seiko bug (which will probably never leave my system entirely).
My (admittedly very personal) reasons, some of which may seem very obvious but I like to be specific :-)
It's nothing more and nothing less than what I need a watch to be. Perfect case size for me (40mm), eminently clear and elegant dial with a day and date I can actually read (and even with coffee in me I'm one who needs that day display), 24-hour indices (I'm always taking trains around the country, and as I grew up in a place where the 12 hour clock was dominant, I struggle a bit at good old Waterloo/Euston/Kings Cross). It's hackable, has the dependable and workmanlike 2824 in it (no more and no less than what I find I actually need in a movement), a sapphire crystal, lume, AND a black dial with white hands & numerals (a must for someone who isn't quite ready to admit I need reading glasses), and (as I've finally admitted to myself just how unlikely it is I'll ever end up scuba diving), the 50 meter water resistance and steel bracelet are perfect for those days I actually do end up swimming at the gym. And last but certainly not least-- the price is right for me. Oh shucks, a completely un-practical reason I'll admit to is a slight fondness for the vintage look of the dial, but that's my obsession...
Gotta be a Sinn U1 for me, on a leather strap
Rolex Sea-Dweller all the way. It killed my watch collection.
There may be room for a meteorite dial WG Daytona though. :D
Loving that white dial/ blue hands combo - would look lovely on a black/ tan leather strapOriginally Posted by Shashlyk
Boring ol' Rolex, in this case the Explorer II white dial. Have worn it continuously (bar a service) for ten years and it has behaved impeccably in every situation. Quite at home whether doing roughty-toughty stuff or black-tie. My Sinn EZM1 is my fave at the moment but if there was only one it would have to be the Explorer.
never been a Panerai fan, but after seeing this 268, it has knocked the SD off the top of the list.
This is the 'one' that started me on the slippery slope!
The only watch I will never sell.
As can be evidence from my new arrival post, this!
I'll throw in another vote for the Sea-Dweller
All the other stuff is nice to have but this Explorer has, in a few short weeks, proved to be the 'one'.
A GO for me - wearing it as I type.......
This has everything. IMPO the best everyday watch money can buy at this price.
42mm, Great bracelet, great movement, great clarity, great depth rating....bombproof.
I already found the "one" watch which will accompany me for the rest of my life ;)
I searched for quite some time with the following criteria:
- Chronograph "Flieger" style
- see through back
- good looking on a leather strap
- GMT a nice to have
- simple, straight hands
- dark/black dial
- Size 40-44mm with 43mm being perfect
- Price max. 2000 Euro used/3000 Euro new
- hardened case (hardenened outer AR coating nice to have)
[attachment=0:1md5b58o]bremont.jpg[/attachment:1md5b58o]
It met all criteria perfectly. Just the dial is not black and I will eventually change it...but for now I love it as is.
If I just want a watch I can rely on and not worry about I reach for my Tissot T-Touch.
I've had it 5 years, changed the batter once and taken it all around the world.
Functional, Accurate, Tough. Smart.
Tissot T-Touch Titanium.
Job done.
White Seamaster GMT. It does everything I need.
Sadly it is now "stolen" by wife
Well after a lot of thought :confused2: I've put forward my PRS3 Broadarrow because:-
Very legible,
Sapphire glass
10 year battery life
Date window
Looks great casual or smart dress
Super tough case
Very sought after :D
Rod
I'd have to go for the Explorer II
Rugged
Good looking with suit or shorts
GMT
Date
And when I have saved enough pennys I will be getting one!!
Everytime i buy a new watch I convince myself it's 'the' one and I won't need another. That feeling lasts about two weeks, then it's on the prowl for 'just one more'
Of the current collection, I'd probably say the SD
The B-1 SuperQuartz is the one for me right now. Accurate (!!), functional, and very rugged. 8)
I wear it on the fantastic Fighter bracelet most of the time, but it can easily slip onto rubber or the NATO for a more casual look.
Very proud to have a LE - No. 43/100 of the Red Arrows 40th Anniversary Edition.
Yet another vote for the SD - only just beating the sub ND for the odd occasion when a date is useful.
Good man. That is at least 3 of us now plumping for the B-1 SQ. For me this question is not about the one watch that is the nicest looking, or has the most emotional attachment but the one which I know I could just wear day in day out (as I do actually). Not surprised at all at the most popular choices so far, all very sensible stuff.
