Done. Interesting as I really struggle to find a style of my own approaching 50.

I bought a leather jacket from C&A (the shop) in Hamburg, many years ago. I still really like it although it seems to have shrunk...

I was just remarking to my son this evening that a belt had shrunk - I think it must happen to leather after a few years! Or maybe the build-up of musculature around the waist has something to do with it.

I'm a bit perturbed - I dress now exactly as I did when I was 25 (some of my clothes are actually from then) so am I doing something wrong, I wonder?

    Cheers,
    Steve

If you were 25 in the early 80s and a New Romantic, then you might have cause to be worried.

Done. Judging by my responses it looks like I am hanging in the style category by a thread!

Many thanks - 126 responses yesterday evening (many from TZ-UK I suspect). Great work. Any more?

Done, but how much use I'll be I don't know. My look is best described as: Badly dressed tramp!

Hey Paul... Not a former football fan? Sounds like the sort of clobber the well dressed Millwall supporters of the 1980's wore. :-) :-)

Done it and I'd better not start getting flyers from Saga or funeral directors (that's the nearest smilie to "old git")

Thanks all, at last count over 170 responses, more needed.

I'll ask for a resume of the findings and post it here if possible.

Thank you Kidsteruk. You're very kind.

I recall when I was thinking about starting a blog four years ago I posted here to ask for advice and help. As you'd expect from this cummunity, I had lots of support for which I was very grateful.

The blog is at http://www.greyfoxblog.com in case anyone wants a look. It started as a description of my search for style as an older man and became also a look at British-made menswear and a forum for sniping at the fashion industry (in a nice way) for ignoring men over about 25.

Really enjoy following David's Tweets and the great info. Done wonders for my wardrobe but pocket has suffered badly.

My buy British made campaign of last year continues thanks to grey fox.

    Keep it up squire.

I have been trying but failed.

This survey is not active at present. Maybe you're too late or "the switch" hasn't been flicked yet.

If it helps I used to love designer brands but am happy to shop at Next and picked up a few bargains from Burtons yesterday.

It seems that beige and brown with perhaps the odd splattering of blue is the preferred choice of colours for the older gent!.

and some even dress as if going out for dinner when only nipping out for the morning paper!.

Thank you all. The survey expired a while ago so don't try to complete it now! It's hasn't been revived with this thread.

Thanks also to those who've had a look at the blog and followed on Twitter & Instagram. I don't pretend to be an expert, it's my search around for style. Any suggestions for content and favourite brands much appreciated.

But I hope it'll help men to find their own style rather than be dictated to by fashion, partners, advertising etc etc.

good blog -any chance of a peasant version? looking at the shop 1 full outfit from there would cost the price of my entire wardrobe :P

Thanks pugster - a common comment and a fair one. I have written several posts on affordable menswear. Overall I try to find a balance between price and quality with a dash of sustainability. Someone, usually the worker, pays for our very cheapest clothes, so I only cover them if there is some guarantee on these points. Even then you pay for what you get in terms of durability.
