How do you know its pork? #justsaying
Is there anything finer?
Sheffielders are mad for the things. Go to any event run by the council, from car shows to a mock-Highland Games, and there will be several hot roast pork sandwich stalls. Go to the greyhounds, and there will be mascara-clad women with their acrylic nails wrapped around a hot roast pork sandwich.
When I moved to the city from Leeds a few years ago I thought it was some quaint local tradition, but then I was introduced to the delights of Beres Pork Shop. I can truly say that there isn't a sandwich experience on Earth like pork, stuffing, apple sauce and dripping from one of their many outlets dotted around the city. I think Beres is up there with Henderson's Relish, Pulp and Richard Hawley as synonymous with the city:

I'm off with flu today and plan to have a couple for my lunch.

Looks good to me, I'm over in Hillsborough now and again I may have to drop in
I'm always a sucker for one when I'm up in Yorkshire, good god they're nice!
Yes, they're available in Wigan but they're generally crap.
Since I live off the beaten track I had to google that. Seems good enough to try! What's the best recipe to use (yes, I found plenty on-line, but since I trust your expertise ... )?
PS
I have no pig, goat, dog etc
I used to live in Sheffield and i miss the hot pork sandwich obsession greatly. I live in Stoke now and im now surrounded by people who eat oatcakes at every opportunity. Vile things.

Sean's at Banner Cross (Sheffield). Best hot roast pork sarnie on the planet.
Or maybe, check the crackling for Sheffield United tattoos... Not all pigs make pork. :o)
I saw this thread this morning and have been yearning for a hot pork roll ever since...
Sounds absolutely delicious, and something i'd happily tuck into.
It's not something we get up here north of the border.
At least i've not heard of it anyway.
Enthusiasm for things porcine is undoubtedly a North Sheffield thing.
Before we moved to Newcastle, I'd never set foot in a Pork Shop or "Charcuterie" as the culturally sensitive Geordies now term them.
Beres & Kings on Dixon Lane, outstanding pork sandwiches .
They would go down well with some Rochdale black peas!

All this talk of hot roast pork sandwiches reminds me of the sandwich of choice for me and my powerlifting mates walking out of temple gym, just off new street in Birmingham, after our saturday morning leg session. We used to get extra meat and apple sauce on a foot long baguette, smeared with stuffing and gravy. The roast pork sandwiches sold down here on the South coast are pale imitations.
