Big suprise with my Rolex LV, back from RSC London!

    Hi All,

picked up my LV today after full service and crystal replacement, and had a very plesent suprise. I asked my AD if it would be possible to have a non cyclopse crystal installed during the service, but it was explained that Rolex only return the watch as sold. However, I insisted that they try and make the request. So, now I have a like new F series LV, with no cyclops, looks the dogs ballocks!

    Scans later.

    Cheers,
    M
P.S. this AD (Lunns, Belfast) has a second hand LV in the used window for a mental £5500!

Look forward to seeing the pictures as a LV without the cyclops sounds very appealing. I keep an eye on Lunns second hand stock from time to time but my gut feeling is that they tend to be expensive for everything. They have a bit of a monopoly in town. However I was offered £480 off the list price of a Speedy Pro at their branch in Victoria Square without too much prompting. So I think they are keen to deal.

I think Mercers sell as many, if not more, Rolex in Belfast than Lunns do.

An LV sans cyclops would have been my grail at one stage - I lusted after one for sometime in 2003, before my normal cyclops version arrived.
It's just a matter of time...

The LV is the only Rolex I like and even then it's grudgingly but a non-cyclops version would have me ebaying a kidney!!

I have dealt with Jonathan at Mercers and he would be my first point of contact to buy a watch. He did me a favour last year and sourced a Fortis for me at a good price. I will be buying more for him in the future. I'm sure I read somewhere that Mercers are one of the few Rolex ADs in the UK to have their own on-site Rolex certified watchmaker.

Looking forward to seeing the LV photos.

I asked Rolex to put a black insert in my LV and they refused. That was only 5 months ago so I'm surprised you managed to get this done.

    LV

    Hi all,

Sorry lads I can't find my wire for downloading my pic's from my camera, but I will ASAP. The story with this service is long and the only reason for the service was a smashed crystal. So here goes, I sent the watch on a 14060 bracelet and Rolex wanted £900's to replace the bracelet as it was not original to the watch when it was sold, they also wanted £280 to replace the bezel insert as it was scratched.
So £450 for full service, 105 crystal, £900 bracelet, and £280 for a new LV insert? I refused being a TZ man and WIS! The watch was sent back to me from Rolex and I swaped the bracelet back to the original and asked Rolex not to change the bezel insert, and also asked for a non-cyclopse cystal if possible?

What can I say? The result is a new watch (the watch is near perfect) that came back, amazing with a non-cyclopse crystal from Rolex London with papers!!!. IMHO never send your Rolex to an AD,SC in the UK, the wait is worth it.

    cheers,
    M

That's interesting ^. You must have caught someone on an off/good day! Fair play to you though, and I'm looking forward to the pics.

EDIT - how long was the watch away being serviced?

Imagine a sub LV, without a date bubble and that is what it will look like?

I can't understand why you'd want to do this myself but kudos for getting it sorted out! Rolex are so against anything like this normally. Did they return the smashed crystal or bin it like they do everything else?

Perhaps they're getting a lot of requests for it and have given in. Doubtful though... I think you were just extremely lucky.

  21. #21
Wow ... could you please clarify is this was a service by an in-dealer approved watch technician or a watch which was serviced by Rolex West Malling/St James? If this latter this is an amazing feat ..... congratulations ....

Wow... a seminal moment in RSC history. I'm immediately sending off my sub to St James' with demands for a blue bezel and black face

I'm really fond of that and not usually a Rolex fan. Is the bezel ceramic?

  27. #27
That looks great and I agree, a first for Rolex who would usually mandate you change that crystal for a cyclops version, even if it were mint, on the next service.

Nice, but you would think Rolex would be able to spell "cyclops"... I mean, who spells it with in an "e"?

They've mishmashed the French (cyclope - which is written on the crystal packet) with the English I guess. To make a version that is wrong in both languages.

noticed that the Guarantee card is dated a good few weeks before the invoice. Does that mean the warranty commences before you got the watch back - that can't be fair can it ??

Looks very nice. I had considered chiseling the cyclops off mine!!!!!!

What next then? Putting WG Daytona Dials on SS Daytonas? I'd have it done in a flash!

    Hi All,

The watch detectives are out again LOL's, first the difference of the dates on the Rolex London papers and the AD papers, I have no idea for this but maybe someone from the forum can give an explaination from previous service experience through an AD? As for the cyclops maybe I was lucky due to all the missing around I had with the bracelet and bezel insert, this service took nearly 3 months from my first visit to the AD.
Well, I am very happy with the end result and think the watch looks better for it, if you don't ask you will never know!

    from this

Is this an official change in policy for Rolex, or a lucky one off?

  35. #35
What a massive improvement! It would be a great step forward if this became a universally accepted request for rolex services.
A nod toward giving the (usually over)paying customer exactly what he/she actually wants, within reason, rather than the more traditional "like it or lump it" approach.

Almost any Rolex AD can remove the glued-on cyclops. Videos on Youtube showing how to do it too. Wife had her DJ delivered without cyclops from AD.

Tricky, they are quite equal for me. The 16600 is the best ever Rolex watch, whereas the LV is the best Sub ever made.
