Apocalypse now!
Here's most of my Seikos (middle left is my wife's). All from the affordable end of the spectrum, all but the bottom 3 bought used...:

Just settled on my beater, an all original 7548 from December 1981.
I have probably tried every watch in the universe in order to try to settle on a beater, but never had, until the penny finally dropped. As well as looking cool, it needs to work without fanning about, so it can only be a quartz.
Although to be honest, almost too nice to wear!!

The nice ones have increased in value of late but I should think £100-150 for a 7548 in good nick. Great thing is there are lots of parts available to bring them back to as new, not original of course but for a beater..
To balance my collection I've been lucky enough to pick something non vintage...
Another 7C43(-7000) arrived recently,
Just picked this up from the PO.
Modified by Brad & fresh on my wrist.
Love the changes over the SKX, but in my mind still representative of the original.
Want to get a vintage seiko diver next, but need to see how the pillow cases work on my wrist.

Oh, you mean not all SKXs hack? ;-) Was actually weird setting the time seeing it hack!
I'm really impressed. And like you I wasn't 100% sure from pictures but owners always seem quietly happy. Now I have it in my hands I'm completely blown away by how much quality there is in this. The bezel action...hmm nice, the insert - not sure if it is ceramic but it's up there with the ceramic Rolex. Bracelet is very very well made and comfy...and the right size 20mm lugs tapering nicely down to the 18mm extending divers clasp. It would be icing on the cake to have a signed crown... and I don't believe the crystal is sapphire either? I would say it's a big step up from the Sumo in quality and it also works better with rubber and NATOs with the shorter lug length. Dare I say it's a keeper
My stable of two.
The 7A28-7100 is a recent addition
Apologies for the poor iPhone pics
I used PS EXPRESS on my phone to tidy it up as much as I can on a phone, at least it's the right way up :)
Whether it's a bad picture or not, it's a lovely looking watch!
