Nothing to write home about. But not crap, just a bit boring.

    Hi

Im a big fan of the wire guards. I believe only a few have got this treatment: the Michael Lau being one of those.

If this was made available as standard, with a standard price they would shift loads.

whacking on a few hundred and making it a limited edition is just upsetting

    thanks

It's sort of hard to see how a "designer" collaboration improves the utilitarian image of that particular watch.

Not crap, but definitely no cooler than the model on which it is based.

Not keen on the metal clip, otherwise it's another Casio.

I disagree but in this case I mainly expected attention to draw to the bull bars and "military" inspired text on the front.

I agree. And Im astonished that, Casio having supposedly called in a designer, this is the result.

Just thinking, have Casio never done a dot matrix display? It's been 15+ years since I've had a G-Shock but the LCD display hasn't changed.

  18. #18
Nothing new there that grabs the attention.

Just yet again another Japanese 5600 collaboration.

One of thousands over the years.

Not cool, Certainly not crap though, so unable to vote

a lot of g shocks do have the dot matrix to some degree, like the day date or some other elements but not the standard dw5600

A rare miss for Casio. One of the less successful collaborations.

i have no idea who the collaboration subject is/are.

i am under no illusion this watch is not designed to go on the wrist of a man like me, but i think it looks ok, just a bit dull.

Are those paperclips on it? Is it meant for the office warrior? I guess that might look cool to a 10 year old. I am grown up, so it falls into the crap category for me.

I love my negative display 5600 so naturally I would wear it.

However, I certainly won't be rushing out to get one of these.

  26. #26
40% cool for the watch that's underneath.
60% crap for the designery stuff on top.

    = a vote for crap.

You can get bull bars from eBay that fit standard DW5600s. I saw some the other day when looking for something else. They weren't made by Casio though.

I wonder how much the designer got paid to come up with this 'special edition' design!

I voted crap, my views are closer to crap than cool as I just can't see a watch that looks like that being cool.

    I don't own a G-shock but am tempted by a few.

Maybe it's a Japanese fashion thing that I just don't get, but it looks like a poor knock off of a normal G-Shock.

And that is to completely miss the point of them.

Similarly, I'd be equally daft to dismiss a pretty dress watch because it won't take a hefty blow, isn't solar powered, isn't synchronised daily, hasn't got a stopwatch, alarms, altimeter etc etc.

Can't really comment. G Shock is a beater watch, what it looks like doesn't matter imo. It's ruggedness is its MO.

So for me it could never be a cool watch, nor can it be crap as it's a G shock. Like is a fork crap or cool? No it's a fork, it's got a purpose.

I would probably get a plain black one though, so this one seems fine.

I don't need all those functions you mention on a (mechanical) watch, so what's your point?

The point is, the point of a G-Shock isn't to look pretty.

Then you're not in the market for a G-shock. That's fine of course, but don't criticise it for being what it is as it is extremely good at it. As a matter of fact, it is unsurpassed.

I'm afraid I have never felt any love for G Shocks, or indeed any digital watches. They were an interesting fad for a while waaaaay back (I had a Sinclair Black Watch at one time) but I sorta grew out of them and to be honest one would look silly on me nowadays. I'm not convinced that a G-Shock is much more robust than any other digital watch either - as long as you keep the water out there is nothing to break inside any of them.
They serve a purpose for those who really do live "extreme" lives, and I include those in the Military forces here, so I don't mind others wearing them, but I do think they are very inelegant, charmless, appliances. But hey, that's just me, it comes down to personal taste.
You can guess how I voted!

    This ^^

It's no more expensive than a normal one and indistinguishable from same except for the metal bars to protect the... er very fragile black resin?

And I like G-Shocks as a rule but this is bobbins

I guess the G-shock is the ultimate tool, cheap and functional......but so is a garden fork.

They have their uses.....so do my old overalls that I wear to crawl under cars in.
