Which GMT insert colour do you prefer?

Just curious as to which colour (Rolex) GMT insert people generally prefer. I'm only suggesting the three classics here, so apologies to those who like the latest blue/black ceramic.

Friendly suggestion, why don't you POST A PHOTO... sorry... post a photo of the various choices.

Would be rather helpful in a post comparing different watches to see the options, even if we possibly know what they look like.

Good idea, honestly........but as it'd mean nicking pics of the net that don't belong to me, then I figured it wouldn't be the done thing. Not lucky enough to own all three colour variants of the GMT myself either :-(

All I can offer is the Pepsi

    Thanks Richard.

The reason for the poll is that I do have genuine black and coke inserts available to fit (though the 16700 only ever came in pepsi or black options). I just sometimes wonder if the pepsi is a bit too 'loud'....the 'black' too understated.......and maybe that the 'coke' is a good compromise - though that would mean making the watch 'unoriginal'.......arrghhh.

For now it remains on the pepsi as that's the one I guess everyone really associates with the GMT (thanks Magnum!), but interested to know what other's think :-)

I personally don't find the Pepsi to be particularly versatile, however iconic. I'd rarely wear it with a suit, for example, but that's probably just me. Can't think of many better sporty watches in the rolex stable though and I like the fact you can switch straps and inserts to completely change the look

Black for me (16710LN). I did ask my local AD if they could supply a Pepsi (I prefer the black, but nice to have the option), but they said they could only supply what was originally on the watch :(

It's perfect with a navy suit or blazer. I even bought a couple of white shirts with thin red a blue stripes to colour coordinate properly

Another curve ball here, but I'll say that is ok for a change. The rest of the time it's Pepsi all the way!
For some reason though, I have recently found myself strangely drawn to a black insert on a NATO.
    Watch this space!

The coke is a good look

But I do rather like this: ( although it isn't mine or my picture)

And I do like the look of a faded Pepsi

With practice, it only takes about thirty seconds to change an insert. So it doesn't matter much, in my opinion.

That said — red and blue, if I had to go with only one.

    But they're all good.

I've had both Pepsi and black (swapping out on the same watch). I much preferred the Pepsi.

  22. #22
Coke. When it comes to Pepsi, I think it works much better when at least a little faded and only on a matte dial. Bright insert and WG surrounds on the dial make it a bit too loud imo.

I prefer the coke myself as its a little less bling in comparison to the pepsi - That said, I do like the faded pepsi bezels.

In regard to the curve ball inserts which have been posted - I'm guessing they're after market? I've see some on ebay. What's the quality like and where are the best outlets/sellers located?

    Cheers

The all blue bezel i believe is a very rare genuine Rolex bezel. ( I pinched the picture from the Vintage Rolex forum)
I also think bobdog's all brownie red bezel is a rare genuine Rolex Bezel, but the green bezel is an aftermarket non Rolex bezel.

    Pepsi for me!

  27. #27
Pepsi...because it was the original and only option when these three were made...

Black doesn't do it for me in the same way, on an old one..

For me, form follows function, and I can't imagine ever being in a position where I need the gaudy blues and reds on a bezel to tell me whether it's day or night.

That's why it has to be Black for me, and why I'll replace the Pepsi bezel
on my 16750 for a plain black one at some point.

Voted for Pepsi, it is more distinctive, IMHO. Then I would prefer the black one which is more classic, but makes the watch look more ordinary, IMHO.

I voted Pepsi as I like the look of it, but could I spend my hard earned on it - I doubt it. Would have to be a bit more reserved for me I'm afraid...

The best combo is a Pepsi on a Jubilee bracelet - pure class.
