Thread: Guitar stands?

    Guitar stands?

Well my wife's finally got fed up with the assorted guitar cases strewn about the house so has agreed I should get some sort of stand to keep them in and has allocated me a corner of a room to keep them!. I'm looking for something to hold upto 5 guitars, a mix of acoustic and electric. There's some very cheap folding rack stands out there but I'm a bit concerned by how cheap they are. Any recommendations? Anything to be avoided? It doesn't actually need to fold or ever move as its intended to pretty much stay in its allocated spot.

I've used one of these for many years now. it's well used and abused and looks and works as good as new...

Made by Quik Lok and available from most on line guitar retailers...

Be careful some of the foam on cheaper stands can effect a guitar that is finished in nitrocellulose - it clouds the finish and can't be undone without an expensive refinish.

I have used Hercules Stands for a number of years without any problems http://www.herculesstands.co.uk/products/85317?n=1. They have done a lot of testing with the foam on their stands.

I also use a Warwick Rock Stand http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and.../144M#full-des and Ultimate http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and...itar-Stand/HDS without any problems.

One thing I would say is that the rubber cushioning on guitar stands can react badly with nitro finished guitars.

If you are thinking of doing so cover the rubber in contact with some old sports socks or something.

I'm sure your wife will love that!

    Cheers guys,

Been looking at all those models so good to get some feedback.. The Hercules is unfortunately slightly too big for the allocated space (and I'm not even going to mention the use of old sports socks yet!!!!).

Haven't you considered the combination of hangers and floor stand if space is an issue ?
I'm not allowed to hang them on the wall apparently!! Still this is a bit of a result as a 5 place rack stand will leave me with a spare slot :) :) That's almost the same as saying go ahead and get that new guitar you were after in my book!

Not very useful given your earlier comment OP, but all of mine are on wall hangers. Love using them as art as well as function. The only problem is that if I sneeze in the dining room my wall mounted dobro rings clear as a bell - makes my ten year old laugh like a drain!

Good point this - the foam on the quik lok is fine with nitro, none of mine have marked over the years...

    Good to know.

Have had a Quik Lok for my Strat for twenty odd years but never had a Gibson on it.

I tried a few multi-guitar stands but found them precarious. I just keep my guitars in their cases. It's safer and easier though I admit, doesn't look as impressive.

Which is what I do now.

Saves on the dust and the strings seem to degrade quicker if left out IMO.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

That has also been my concern. I'd love to have them all more accessible, but dust etc are a concern. I wonder if there's a multi stand that can somehow be closed/covered without resorting to an unsightly sheet or something like that.

I hate it when they do that.

Show us a pic with your guitars when you finally get it.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

My Hercules stand takes up very little space and looks after them very well, but only takes three
